On the move: Michael Tokaruk closed his barn in Aiken and is now riding and training for Andre Dignelli at Heritage Farm . Good luck on this exciting move, Michael.
Ashley Herman-Griffn , manager of the Sonoma Horse Park in Northern California, made the most of her off-season by working some of the biggest European Indoor shows in November and December. She oversaw the VIP at both the Audi Masters in Brussels and the Gucci Masters in Paris. Ashley says that “it was an eye-opening experience and I was blown away by the quality and opulence of these shows. The organizers are above anything else, focused on promoting the sport and expanding its audience.” We can’t wait to see what parts of that European show experience she brings to the SHP’s 2011 season!
Also in Northern California, Pickwick Equestrians has partnered with Leone Equestrians to present a $10,000 Triple Crown Series of Hunter Derbies this season. Beginning inApril at the Capital City Spring Classic, three $2,500 Hunter Derbies will be offered during shows at Leone Equestrians, with a $2,500 bonus for the highest total scorer after the 3 events. Rudy Leone , who envisioned and created the very popular Sacramento International “indoor” show held each fall, is part of the team behind this new venture. As always, Rudy’s dedication in bringing more exposure to Northern California’s show scene is admirable!
Congratulations: Susie Schoellkopf and Jennifer Alfano
were given the President’s Distinguished Service Award and the Rider Recognition Award for 2010, respectively, at the USHJA Evening of Equestrians Awards Dinner, during the 6th annual USHJA meeting held in Texas. Jen’s award, whose her cash earnings in 2010 were just above $400,000, was given for the most money won as a hunter rider!
Anthony D’Ambrosio was named the USHJA’s “2010 Course Designer of the Year” for the second time. He couldn’t attend the event as he was building courses for a national championship in Ecuador. Other featured honorees included Danny Robertshaw
and Col. John Russell as USHJA Lifetime Achievement Award winners.
The City Council of Milton, Georgia recently honored long time resident Hunt Tosh , who earlier this year won the Chronicle of the Horse/United States Hunter Jumper Association International Hunter Derby Final in Lexington, Ky. He added the title to his growing list, including being the 2009 World Champion in the
