36 SIDELINES FEBRUARY 2011 FOR HORSE PEOPLE • ABOUT HORSE PEOPLE

are the acting chairpersons, Mike Rhineheimer is the manager and Louise Serio is the driving force behind this much talked about new show. These two shows will go up against the Lake Placid dates so you have to decide now where you want to be.

Charities: The EQUUS Foundation welcomed Tiffany & Co. of Palm Beach Gardens as the Title Sponsor for its Equestrian Idol “All Stars” Musical Cabaret on Friday, February 4, in Wellington. Lynn Coakley was the driving force behind the fun.

Liz Olsezewski , founder of Horses Healing Hearts USA , a nonproft in Lake Worth, Fla. that works with children of alcoholics and addicts, recently contacted The Rider’s Closet for a shipment of much-needed boots and clothing. After receiving the items, Liz wrote a heartfelt thank-you letter that was signed by her riders. She noted that they “feel like true equestrians now and are feeling very proud.” This sentiment is echoed again and again in riders’ notes of appreciation to Georgina Bloomberg and The Rider’s Closet volunteers.

After a random drawing, 29 non-profts were chosen to compete against defending charity champion Step By Step Foundation at the  2011 FTI Great Charity Challenge during the FTI Winter Equestrian Festival.  Step By Step founder Liliane Stransky , daughter Daniela , and family’s trainer/rider Hector Florentino Stransky cheered on their champion Olympian Margie Engle , who was the anchor for their international charity’s team in 2010, during the 20 show jumping competitions held during Horsefest in downtown West Palm Beach.  One “wild card” charity slot is still available, and Equestrian Sport Production CEO Mark

Bellissimo hopes the donations for this year’s relay competition reach $1 million.

Congratulations: Pablo  and Joaquina Barrios welcomed a new addition to their family, son Nicolas , who was born just before Christmas.

Friends gathered on January 9th to celebrate the life of Jay Matter after the Grand Prix at the International Club at the WEF Showgrounds in Wellington. Entertainment, food and beverages were donated, and friends shared their best Jay stories. “Jay didn’t want a memorial service, he wanted a party to celebrate all of the living he got to do,” Jay’s widow, Dee Thomas said.

Passing: General Samy Negm El Din of Egypt, an FEI offcial in jumping and technical consultant to the Omani National Federation, passed away on December 4. He was 64. From 2000 to 2001 he served as a board member of the Egypt Equestrian Federation and was a technical consultant to the Omani National Federation until his sudden death. Gen. Samy Negm El Din was a member of the FEI World Cup™ Jumping Arab League Sub-Committee and was instrumental in the organization of many international events in show jumping and tent pegging (otherwise known as jousting) in the region. He played a key role in setting up the International Tent Pegging Committee in 2008.

If you are reading this before January 30 and are in South Florida, you don’t want to miss the Sidelines Equestrian Tetrathlon presented by FarmVet , at the Jim Brandon Equestrian Center in West Palm.

So what is an equestrian tetrathlon? Four team members, a jumper, polo player, dressage rider and reiner all take a turn at one another’s discipline to the delight (and often amusement) of the crowd.

It’s for a good cause, too: the Equestrian Aid Foundation is the benefciary, and there will be a great after party starting at 10 PM. Tickets are available by calling 704-650-1604 or at rsvp@equestrianaidfoundation.org. Be there!

News to share: New baby, engagement, pickup truck? On the move, having parties, falling off horses? Share what’s happenin’ with your horse show friends by e-mailing us at editor@sidelinesnews.com. Be sure to put “News for Ingate” in the subject line.
