4 SIDELINES JUNE 2011 FOR HORSE PEOPLE • ABOUT HORSE PEOPLE

Of course, Jan visited with juniors, including this month’s cover girl, Allison Toffolon and Geoffrey Hesslink and did a Lighterside on “Miss June” a calendar girl we can all relate to. All this and more and a wedding, too? Hats off to Jan for being Trophy Wife and Queen of Organization! There is more to read, of course. I know you will fnd some great people within these pages. I especially enjoyed this issue with its last

minute excitement (Rolex fnished only three days before we go to the printer… Lauren had a deadline for sure!) and I’m sure you will fnd lots to enjoy when you come in from your ride. With the weather so nice, I expect this issue will be what you’ll grab après barn chores.

Until next month! Cornelia Henderson

Letter from the Editor

There’s a lot going on in this issue. Where to begin? Rolex is a good place to start, and Lauren Giannini and Kim and Allan MacMillan were there, taking photos of it all as Mary King roared home not just in frst place, but frst and second in American’s only four star. The leader board was in constant fux, and if you, like me, followed it daily on Lauren Gallops (www.sidelinesmagazine.,com/blog/ laurengallops) you felt like you were there with her. If you hadn’t discovered our blogs, well, it’s high time you did. We do have some fantastic bloggers: get to know them. Danika Rice wrapped up the USPA Open for us, and Alan Fabricant, too, the photos. We love polo especially since Sidelines got its start as a polo publication, and the Open is defnitely the best tournament north of the equator. Congratulations to Victor Vargas and his Lechuza Caracas on their win.

This is also our education issue, with a focus on schools and riding programs. I know you will enjoy reading about some educators who make the three Rs reading, ‘riting and riding. CJ Law is an amazing woman who’s coached the Mount Holyoke team for the past 27 years, and Bob Caccione’s incredible journey all began when he was a sophomore in college himself. This year Bob was named the USEF/EQUUS Foundation Humanitarian of the Year. Jan Westmark got married (now Jan Westmark-Allan) but before she slipped on her wedding dress, she visited with one of the most amazing women I’ve ever read about. Do

not miss reading “The Inspirational Life of Lauren Barwick.”
