66 SIDELINES AUGUST 2011 FOR HORSE PEOPLE • ABOUT HORSE PEOPLE F A S H I O N

The Sidelines Magazine Defnition of Style Contest

In early June, Sidelines asked and our reader’s answered en force when we launched our “Defnition of Style” contest via our popular Facebook Page. Entries ran the gamut, from stylish equestrian-inspired belts, to matching pink tack, to ‘80s retro style. Entrants were posted in our Defnition of Style Facebook photo album, which is still online if you want to see how 42 of our readers defne their own equestrian style.

But in the end the winner of the contest, which was sponsored by our friends at SmartPak, was 18 -year-old Renata Vieira from Aveiro, Portugal. For Renata, her Wildkart stirrups defne her style when she’s riding her 8-year-old mare Xara. With 137 votes, Renata won a Plymouth Padded Fancy Stitch Bridle from SmartPak, and a year’s subscription to Sidelines.

Renata wrote in and told us that: “I started riding at the age of 8. I was 13 when I got my frst horse, and now I have four (Xara, Zamour, El Dorado and El Capiton) and one pony (Andorinha). I have ridden for 10 years now, and I can say that once I started riding with my Wildkart stirrups my legs just started improving drastically. I was one of those riders that often lose their stirrups over the biggest jumps, and I say that’s not very comfortable, either for the rider or the horse...These stirrups make your leg stable, and in the perfect place. I bought these stirrups almost 3 years ago and the improvement is remarkable. Now my legs are always in place, even when I don’t ride with them.”

Second place winner Catina Schofeld’s pink jump boots and saddle pad earned 131 votes. Catina explained her style like this: ““My pink jump boots and my pink saddle pad are my horse Bunz’s and [my] favorite equine style. We could not live without it because it just completes our style. It’s my favorite color and poor Bunz gets called a girl all the time because he is dressed in pink, but it makes us laugh. He looks so styling in his pink when we go to shows, or are just riding in the ring or on a trail ride.”
