Hampton Classic Triumphs
for its 36th Anniversary
The Hampton Classic Horse Show was a tremendous
success once again, despite a delayed start due to
Hurricane Irene. As usual, loads of celebrities were on hand
for this iconic end of summer event along with world class
equestrian competition, unique shopping opportunities and
fun family entertainment.
Delayed three days because of the hurricane, the
Hampton Classic managed to keep almost its entire
competition schedule, albeit compressed from eight days
into fve. The show featured competition at every level
from young children in the Lead Line division to Olympic
veterans in the horse show’s main attraction, the $250,000
FTI Grand Prix and FEI World Cup™ Qualifer, which was
won yet again by two time Olympic team Gold Medalist
McLain Ward.
Riding Antares F, owned by Grant Road Partners, LLC,
McLain tied his own record winning a grand prix at the Classic
on three consecutive days. He also tied Margie Engle’s record
by winning the featured Grand Prix for three consecutive years
and he added to his own record by winning the Classic’s featured
Grand Prix six times overall, twice as many as anyone else.
The Hampton Classic would not be complete without celebrity
sightings throughout the week. They included New York Mayor
Michael Bloomberg and Diana Taylor, former New York Mayor
Rudy Giuliani, Jerry Seinfeld, Matt Lauer, Rosanna Scotto, Lou
Dobbs, Jill Rappaport, Aida Turturro, Prince Lorenzo Borghese,
B. Smith, James Lipton, David Yurman, Betty Knight Scripps, and
LA Reid.
Hampton Classic Horse Show, Inc. is a 501.c.3 charitable
corporation.  It benefts Southampton Hospital and several other
charities.
