Individual gold medalists in show jumping Christine McCrea and Candy Tribble’s
Dutch gelding Romantovich Take One from the U.S.A. were handed a last minute
win when their teammates Beezie Madden and Coral Reef Vio Volo jumped clean,
but went over the time limit accruing one fault. McCrea, a rookie on team U.S.A.,
commented on her last minute win over her veteran teammate Madden and on her
frst experience competing on a U.S. team, “I did not anticipate that and I’m sure
Beezie didn’t anticipate that. It just happened. That’s sports. My overall impression
was this was a fabulous week. It was great. Our country needed this - we needed
it.”
