4 SIDELINES JANUARY 2012
FOR HORSE PEOPLE • ABOUT HORSE PEOPLE
Just for fun, and it is, after all,
January, we asked several riders if
they had New Year’s resolutions.
“Win more, ride clean” was the
majority of the resolutions (go fgure!)
but we got some interesting answers.
Columnists Lisa Hollister, Sarah
Ward and Lauren Corey have some
interesting thoughts this month, and
after a long absence, we welcome
Horse in Motion and Bev Gordon
back to our pages. If you’ve wondered
about that crazy tape you see here
and there on horses, well, she has
your answer.
So all in all it’s another great issue
of my favorite magazine.
Treat yourself, and take a little time
off from unloading the trailer down
in Florida, or chopping ice in New
York and enjoy the January issue.
I certainly did.
Until next month,
Cornelia Henderson
Letter from the Editor
January is a time for new beginnings, which makes it a perfect
month for our stallion issue. When better to peruse the ads for
handsome boys and dream about the amazing foals that might
appear in your pasture next spring? (Of course we urge you to
breed responsibly – there are too many unwanted horses out
there as it is.) But if you do have a worthy mare and a future for
a foal, we have some very interesting stories in this issue for your
reading pleasure.
Christine DeHerrera takes us on a visit to Iron Spring Farm that
stands a number of fantastic stallions and has a reputation for
producing some very fne horses. Lauren Giannini tells us about
cloning – admittedly not the usual way of producing that dream
baby, but who wouldn’t want another Gem Twist?
Jan Westmark Allan caught up with Schaefer Raposa, clearly a
junior who is going far in the show world as well as Kya Endreson,
a working student who is making her mark in the dressage arena.
We have a great spread on Pan Am Gold, thanks to Kim and
Allen MacMillan who were in Guadalajara on our behalf, and a
couple of related stores: Richard Lamb, best known as a trainer,
course designer and eventer, coached the Pentathlon team for us
down there, and Lauren visited with Eduardo Tame, who ran the
press offce for the Pan Am games.
