California’s Golden Coast seems to be the perfect
setting for temperate weather and competitive polo, as
Empire Polo Club kicks off its opening weekend with
a combination of parties, polo and celebration of a new
season ahead. From a pre-opening Blue and White “bash”
Friday night, attended by over 400 people in a royal setting
of tents, bonfres, and a traditional Argentine asado, the
air seemed to buzz with excitement about the start of
California’s winter season.
The weekend didn’t disappoint, with fve games
spanning the three days, in both 4 and 10 goal leagues.
Reminiscent of a popular staple of Wellington’s El Sur Polo
Club, Empire has also begun a “Friday Night Under the
Lights” tradition in their arena, which is rapidly becoming
a fan-favorite.
Although often recognized for the Thermal HITS show
through the winter, the spotlight will certainly be following
the action “over the fence” at the Empire Polo Club takes
the “reins” on another Winter Season.
