Boyd Martin, another iron man/equestrian triathlete, had not declared
his entries at press time but everyone would love to see wunderkind
Neville Bardos (see cover), 7th at Burghley last September, compete
for a berth on the Olympic team. Boyd’s chances are good, however,
with depth to his four-star bench: Remington XXV (pictured, 9th 2011
Rolex), Otis Barbotiere or the veteran Yin Yang Yo. Boyd and his
horses share indomitable spirit, steely determination and bold talent.
The Australian-turned-American quite fancies a Rolex watch.
Phillip Dutton, the iron man of the equestrian triathlon, won Rolex in
2008 with the late great Woodburn, fnishing second eight times in
his career. Last year he partnered with Fernhill Eagle (shown here)
to fnish 18th in the horse’s frst four-star. The duo placed 2nd in
Advanced at Red Hill in early March. Mighty Nice, owned by Bruce
Duchossois, who has been living up to his name, is slated to make his
four-star debut. Phillip would love a ticket to his ffth Olympics.
Michael Pollard hadn’t declared by press time when he
sat in second place overall. His wife Nathalie confrmed
that he plans on a return engagement at Rolex with
Icarus III and Wonderful Will.
