Salmon, Washington and invited along on one of their cattle
drives. While there, Kerri met her husband, Kelly Kreps, a 5
th
generation cattle rancher who runs the farm operations with his
two brothers.
Kerri and Kelly still live in Washington with their 15 year old
son Keifer, where they keep up their equestrian passion. When
she’s not at work, Kerri is often found riding her newest barn
addition, a celebrity in his own right - a former racehorse by the
name of Trolley Boy, who now goes by his “stage name” Big
Red. One of the three equine stars of the Disney channel movie
Secretariat, Big Red has found a new home as a member of the
Kerrits family - and a new career, doing community service and
charity work as his “on-screen persona.”
“We take him around to parks and events and they’ll put
him in his blue and white blinders, and his white racing bridle.
They’ll screen the flm and the kids will get to meet him and pet
him,” says Kerri. “That’s where I spend a lot of my time outside
of work and the barn.” For many of the special needs children
that meet Big Red, it is a once in a lifetime occasion.
“He’s a really good boy, really sweet,” Kerri says. “We use
him for everything - we do dressage and I even work cows on
him.” So if you happen to be in Washington and you notice
someone wrangling cows on a horse that looks exactly like
Secretariat, you aren’t dreaming – it’s just Kerri out for another
leisurely ride.
