66 SIDELINES AUGUST 2012
FOR HORSE PEOPLE • ABOUT HORSE PEOPLE
By Lauren Corey
Fifteen-year-old Lauren Biddle, of Wellington, Florida, is a
competitive jumper rider in addition to being a star polo player.
She imported her six year old horse, Enrique, from Europe
last year. Lauren has been circuit champion two years in a
row at the Winter Equestrian Festival, in the Low Children’s
Jumpers in 2009 and in the High Children’s Jumpers in 2010,
and hopes to continue this streak with Enrique.
How did you begin your riding career?
I started riding when I could sit up. My parents would sit me
on their horses and I would ride around with them. I got my
first pony, Lollipop, when I was four. She was green when we
got her, so my mom, Yvette, had to train her. I started playing
polo on Lollipop, and when I was about seven I started taking
jumping lessons.  I am so grateful to have my mom; she has
given up so much of her time to help me with my showing and
polo. She gave her polo horses to me, and at one point she
even gave me her jumper, Beyonce!
What is your favorite thing to do when you aren’t riding?
With all of our 25 plus horses, there is hardly any free
time, but I absolutely love going to the beach when there is a
chance. Other than that, being with my horses is everything.
What was your most embarrassing moment with horses?
When I was doing children’s ponies, I was told to sing to my
pony when he got fresh. I went into the ring singing and sadly
went off course in my hunter class.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Wow, I can’t even see myself a week from now! Hopefully
I will be with Enrique showing successfully in the grand prix.
I also see myself still playing polo. I may not be like Gillian
Johnston, Tiffany Busch or Sunny Hale, but hopefully if I
continue working perhaps I will.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
The best advice I’ve been given is “think before you speak.”

My mom gives my this advice
quite often…
If you could have dinner
with anyone, who would it
be?
If I could go to dinner
with anyone, it would be my
grandma Helen. She passed
away when I was a newborn.
My mother is such an amazing
person; I can’t imagine how
wonderful of a woman my
grandmother was.
What are your favorite
movies?
Taken, 50 First Dates and
Inception
