“Reprieve” is a seven-year-old, 16hh,
Thoroughbred mare; she was rescued from
the kill pen by a friend of Rocky Mountain
Horse Rescue in 2011 as a fve year old. She
has an outstanding personality that shone
through even as she was in the pen headed
for slaughter and won over her “savior” by
following her all around the pen. Reprieve
raced only a few weeks before she was
sent to the sale. She’s had some time to
decompress now and has had some riding,
but no formal training since arriving at the rescue.
Reprieve is a very kind-hearted horse, but will require an intermediate rider and would
be best suited with a consistent program. She will definitely come out fresh when she’s
had time off! She walks and trots very nicely, picks up both leads well, but will need more
schooling to get her to canter slowly. She ties and trailers well and is happy living either
outdoors or in a stall situation. Her ex-trainer from the race track said at home she was
gentle enough for kids to ride although we have not experimented with that. Reprieve is
looking for a forever home, most likely as a pleasure or trail horse. For more information on
