knows how to smile on command, which just demonstrates how
the MMSC can turn up an interesting crop of horses.
The four concepts that the Maker’s Mark Secretariat Center
focuses on are quality, excellence, transparency and honesty.
Without these concepts at the forefront, the MMSC would not
have transformed into the organization that it is today. “We are
trying to showcase the Thoroughbred as an athlete at any level:
from Pony Club to an Olympian,” Susanna said.
Indeed, Olympian-level horses have come through the
Secretariat Center’s barn doors. Dorothy Crowell, World
Equestrian Game 1994 silver medalist, Rolex Three-Day Event
competitor and member of two Olympic teams has adopted three
horses from the Secretariat Center. Dorothy is even quoted in the
MMSC’s brochure, saying, “The MMSC provides unique access
to some of the best athletes in the equine industry and does an
amazing job both in preparing horses for their second careers and
in matchmaking!”
This testimony certainly exemplifes how the MMSC strives
to be known for training and adopting elite horses. Reschooling
adoptable racehorses is the priority of the Maker’s Mark
Secretariat Center, so that when these racehorses retire from
their frst careers, they can safely and successfully transition into
new careers with new, loving owners.
