people – you have to be visible, you
have to grow up, according to their
standards.”
Kris Bowman, Executive Director,
and Amanda Snow, who run the
Team USPA program, believe that
all polo players are ambassadors
for the sport and that Team USPA
members have a special role to
fulfill among their own peers and
with other young players, parents
and their communities.
“There have been hundreds of
applicants vying for a spot in the
Team USPA program over the past
four years,” said Kris. “Only players
who will be the consummate
professional and representative for
the sport are chosen. With the honor
comes the responsibility to push
themselves beyond the average
player as well as assist in growing
the sport of polo. The future of polo
is in their hands and I am proud to
be a part of this program.”
Players profiled in the
Sidelines
series have been unanimous in
their enthusiasm and appreciation for being members of Team
USPA. Tiamo Hudspeth, 23, grew up riding and playing in Maui,
Hawaii. She currently works for Steven Armour at A-F Pony Farm
in Houston, Texas where they breed, raise, train and sell polo
ponies.
“I play for Steven as a pro during the Houston polo season.
I enjoy playing polo and I will always want to become a better
player – I can’t help it, I’m extremely competitive,” said Tiamo, one
of Team USPA’s nine standout female members. “The horses are
my passion. I really love training horses, especially starting them
under saddle and working all the way until they are made playing
horses. If you want to get involved with Team USPA, you can do
it! No matter where you come from or who you know, hard work
and teachability will always get you to your goals. If you truly love
the horses and the sport and you are willing to work hard, you can
make the world of polo your career.”
