Coulter, who at 23 and
21 respectively, have
bested some of the top
riders in theworld.
While
young
equestrians aremaking
theirmarks in the sport,
don’t count the more
seasoned riders out!
We have a wonderful
story in this issue on
Ian Millar, also known
by the name Captain
Canada. At 67, Ian
has competed in 10
OlympicGames–more
than any other athlete
in any discipline – and
he’s not planning on
slowing down anytime
soon. I love the photo
on this page of Ian and
his legendary horse
Big Ben competing at
Spruce Meadows. If
you aren’t familiar with
Ian, then it’s about time
you get to know this
amazingmanand rider.
Speaking of an amazing man, polo great Carlos Gracida
passed away recently leaving, as writer Darlene Ricker said, “a
hole in theheart of thesport.”Darlenewroteawonderful tribute to
this extraordinary man, who’s considered by many to have been
one of the greatest polo players of all time. I read the story with
a heavy heart, and was touched by what a special man the polo
worldhas lost. Our thoughts arewithhis family and friends.
After a long, toughwinter, spring is finally here and I hope you
get to enjoy some quality horse time with your favorite equines.

New Zealand eventer Andrew
Nicholson was quite a beautiful
sight galloping across the cross-
country course at the 2013 Rolex
Kentucky Three-Day Event in
Lexington, Kentucky, on his
gorgeous black mount, Quimbo.
The duo then turned in a winning
stadium jumping round to claim the
Rolex title.Andrew, who is pictured
on our cover this month, looks
thrilled as he celebrates during his
victory gallop – and he should be
becauseRolex is the only four-star
event in theUnitedStatesandquite
a prestigiouswin. (Note:
Sidelines
strongly believes riders should
wear helmets at all times – even in victory gallops!)
