18 SIDELINES JULY 2014
FOR HORSE PEOPLE • ABOUT HORSE PEOPLE
Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event, Presented by Land Rover,
brought out the best of the best, proving itself yet again as
the “equestrian triathlon” testing ground and showcase for
international stars. While the title went to a seasoned veteran from
Great Britain, it was a year for American riders to shine.
William Fox-Pitt and Catherine Witt’s Bay My Hero finished on
their dressage score of 44.0 to win William’s third Rolex Kentucky
in five years and his 13th career CCI****. Lauren Kieffer of
Middleburg, Virginia, and Veronica, second going into the final
test, posted a faultless show jumping round and they too finished
on their dressage score of 46.7. As top-placed American rider,
Lauren won the Rolex/USEF Four-Star Championship.
The Americans continued to ride away with the ribbons, with
Buck Davidson and Ballynoe Castle RM finishing third and Sinead
Halpin and Manoir de Carneville in fourth. Marilyn Little finished
in the next two places with RF Smoke On The Water and RF
Demeter. Jan Byyny and Inmidair finished seventh with Phillip
Dutton catch-riding to eighth place for Boyd Martin.
