O
ur annual fashion issue is always a highlight — great
styles, fun fashions and fabulous supermodels. The
supermodels this year were part of our
Sidelines
“Be a
Supermodel” contest. We had a lot of wonderful entries, and in
this issue we’re showcasing our three grand prize winners, as
well as many honorable mentions.
Two of the honorable mentions are featured here: Stevi
Thomson and Ariel Levin and they certainly look fashionable
— although young riders and their horses are always in
style. Speaking of style, don’t miss our new column called
“Amateurisms” by funny lady and amateur rider Kathy Serio.
Kathy takes us into her world of fashion, although it seems her
horses are the fashionable ones in the family.
The fashion model gracing our cover this issue not only
shows off her style, but a stunning pair of Tucci riding boots
as well. Franco Tucci is featured in our cover story and I think
you’ll enjoy getting to know him. He grew up in his family’s
fashion business but launched his own company, Tucci, in 2006.
Franco’s passion for footwear has turned Tucci into a success
and Tucci boots are now sold on every continent.
Franco isn’t the only equestrian to launch his own company.
In this issue we catch up with Tigger Montague, who founded
BioStar, a whole food supplement company for horses and dogs.
Tigger takes a strong stance against GMOs (genetically modified
organisms) and believes that whole food and health are strongly
connected. The story certainly made me think about what I’m
eating and what I’m feeding my animals. Tigger is extremely
knowledgeable on the topic of whole food and eating right, and
I’m eager to hear comments from our readers about her story.
Many eventing fans will remember The Gray Goose, a horse
ridden to the World Championships by Kim Walnes in the ’70s
and ’80s. In this issue, we have a wonderful look back at the
fascinating life of Kim and The Gray Goose. Kim had a strong
will to succeed, despite a fear of jumping. Her partnership with
The Gray Goose is a testament to the bond between horse and
rider and you’ll love the mottos she lives by:
Where there’s a will
there’s a way!
and
Why can’t you have your cake and eat it too?
In the June issue of
Sidelines
, we featured a story on the
Brooke Foundation, whose vision is to end the suffering of
working horses, donkeys and mules around the world. The
Brooke contacted me recently to let me know that a
Sidelines
reader made a donation to the Brooke after reading the story. It
really made my day to think that our story could help further the
work of a worthy organization and I want to thank everyone who
made donations.
I hope you enjoy our fashion section, as well as all of the
other wonderful stories in this issue. Once again, the
Sidelines
writers have gone above and beyond to bring you great stories
from all across the country. If you’re traveling this summer, make
sure you take us along — which is even easier now that we’re
available in print and digital. The digital edition is free if you have
a print subscription. So catch the
Sidelines
spirit and download
the app on your tablet or phone and enjoy the
Sidelines
ride!
