Internationally recognized professional polo player and RalphLauren Polo model Nacho Figueras will be playing polo at Empire Polo Club in California on March 23rd in the Polo d’Elegance Charity Match. The theme of the event will revolve around horsepower, combining a blend of the elegant sport of polo with modern and vintage luxury automobiles. This one-day event will offer spectators the chance to watch Nacho compete in a high-goal polo match while supporting a good cause, the Boys and Girls Club of Coachella Valley.
Congratulations to Nick Snow, who has shown tremendous dedication and commitment to the sport of polo, and was selected as the winner of the prestigious Team USPA Equus & Co. Award, which honors the Team USPA player who best exemplifies the program’s principles. Equus & Co. CEO and Chairman Jim Whisenand presented a check for $10,000 and a unique, engraved belt buckle to Nick in February at the International Polo Club Palm Beach. Finalists Stephanie Massey and Tiamo Hudsepth were also honored and received beautiful Tackeria “Ultimate” saddles in recognition of their contributions to the Team USPA program.
Get Ready Girls!! The Women’s Championship Tournament (WCT) is hot this year with outdoor and arena polo. The WCT Finals Outdoor will be held April 3-6 at the Grand Champions Polo Club inWellington and the WCT Finals Arena Championships will be held in October at the California Polo Club inLos Angeles.
The San Diego Polo Club is gearing up for an action-packed summer, kicking off the excitement on April 13 with the opening of their polo school. Practice chukkers begin May 9 and opening day is June 9. Take part in the action if you are in theSan Diego area.
Learning from the Pros! The Team USPA 2013 players were in Wellington in February. Polo Hall of Famers Owen Rinehart and Charles Smith along with well-known coach Charlie Muldoon helped teach and train Team USPA 2013 in a wide-ranging weekend clinic that included on-and-off-the-field lessons. Team USPA Players taking part included: Daniel Galindo, Jeff Shuler, Kylie Sheehan, Harrison Samaniego, Miguel Questel, Devin Vass, Patrick and Matthew Collins.
The Gay Polo League will honor gay Olympians during the April 12-13 International Gay Polo Tournament festivities. Six-time Olympian Robert Dover will serve as Chairman of the Gay Polo Olympian Committee.
Robert has earned more honors than any other U.S.dressage rider in the sport’s history. He competed in six consecutive Olympics for the U.S.equestrian team, four world championships and seven World Cups. Mason Phelps, Jr., founder and president of Phelps Media Group International, will serve as committee vice chairman. Mason, a lifelong horseman, was aU.S. Olympic alternate for the U.S. three-day team that competed in the 1968 Mexico City Olympic Games.
