Alltech National Horse Show Named a USEF Heritage Competition

Lexington, KY – July 24, 2013 – The Alltech National Horse Show announced today that it has been named an official USEF Heritage Competition. The legendary show made the successful move to its new home in Lexington, Kentucky in 2011. During the debut season at the Kentucky Horse Park, the show was named as the National Show Hunter Hall of Fame’s Horse Show of the Year and was ranked as the nation’s top show by the North American Riders Group (NARG).

Founded in 1883 at the original Madison Square Garden, the National Horse Show is America’s oldest indoor horse show, firmly established as a major fixture on the national and international sports and social event calendars.

The Alltech National Horse Show has been designated a Heritage Competition by the United States Equestrian Federation

The designation of a USEF Heritage Competition is reserved for competitions that have been established for a long period of time and have made substantial contribution toward the development and promotion of the sport, both within the broader community, by achieving, maintaining and promoting the equestrian ideals of the sportsmanship and competition.

Eligibility for the Heritage designation requires a minimum of 25 consecutive years of operation excluding any Act of God interruption and application by the Competition Licensee. In addition, the Competition must be in good standing with both USEF and the representing affiliate. The event must show significant involvement and support from the community where the competition is held and significant contribution to promotion of the sport of equestrian. Also, the show must be widely recognized within the sport of equestrian as being a Regional, National or International level of competition, or possessing other characteristics that make it unique within the sport of equestrian.

“On behalf of the United States Equestrian Federation, I would like to congratulate the Alltech National Horse Show,” said USEF President Chrystine Tauber. “This show has been a part of the fabric of the American showing scene for more than a century.  The longevity, dedication to philanthropic efforts, and impact on the community, makes this competition a perfect example of what we look for when designating USEF Heritage Competitions.”

“Speaking for Alltech, the Board of Directors and all of our staff and management here at the Alltech National Horse Show, I’ve got to tell you how honored we are to receive this designation from our federation,” said Mason Phelps, Jr. the President of the National Horse Show Association. “With the unparalleled history and legacy of this great event, I can’t think of a horse show in this nation that is more deserving of the Heritage Competition designation.”

Bill Maroney, the President of the United States Hunter Jumper Association commented on the designation. “The National Horse Show well deserves the USEF Heritage Competition designation. Longevity, community and excellence are synonymous with the National. Congratulations on receiving this recognition,” he said.

“We are extremely proud of the 130 years of commitment to providing a great competition in a world-class atmosphere,” Phelps went on to say. “We’re also proud of the service to our many wonderful charities and to the ASPCA in particular as the hosts of the ASPCA Maclay National Championship.”

The Alltech National Horse Show joins an impressive list of competitions with the Heritage Competition designation 2013 Heritage Competitions. That list includes the Pin Oak Charity Horse Show, the Devon Horse Show, Upperville, Waterloo, Fairfield, Warrenton, the Hampton Classic and others.
