Lake Placid, New York—June 26, 2013—Laura Chapot of Neshanic Station, NJ and Johnathan Corrigan of Oyster Bay, NY won the two sections of the Hollow Brook Wealth Management 1.35m jump-off classes, Wednesday’s main events at the 44th annual Lake Placid Horse Show, Presented by Sea Shore Stables, LLC. The horse show continues through Sunday at the North Elba Showgrounds before giving way to the 36thannual I Love New York Horse Show, July 2-7.
Chapot rode Umberto to two fault-free rides and a jump-off time of 35.012 seconds to claim her win over former Canadian Olympian Mario Deslauriers of New York, NY who finished in 38.594 seconds on Ardeche van Dezelm. U.S. Olympic veteran Anne Kursinski of Frenchtown, NJ finished third with four jump-off faults and a time of 35.994 seconds on Diva.
In the other section, Corrigan rode Olympic de Chamant to a time of 31.044 seconds to edge Chapot who finished in 32.225 seconds on her other mount, Shooting Star. Deslauriers was third with a time of 33.145 on Hester.
The WildCenter 1.30m Jumper Class was run in three sections which were won by Chapot on Castellana, Corrigan on Avenir L and Candice King of Wellington, FL on Antigone Quality. The day’s other winners included Spencer Smith of Wellington, FL on Courant in the Platinum Performance Show Jumping Talent Search.
The Lake Placid and I Love New York Horse Shows host all levels of competition ranging from young children on ponies to grand prix competitors and Olympic medalists, all competing for over $535,000 in prizes. The horse show begins at 8:00 am each day, with competition running in four rings simultaneously.
Highlighting the two weeks of competition are the $75,000 Equine Insurance Services/Great American Grand Prix of Lake Placid on Sunday, June 30, and the $100,000 Woodlea Farms Grand Prix on Saturday, July 6, both presented by Sea Shore Stables, LLC. These are the pinnacle of show jumping competition and are guaranteed to be action packed events with even bigger prize money this year as the horse shows are offering a $100,000 Grand Prix for the first time ever!
Another highlighted competition is the $15,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby presented by Eastern Hay & Grain and Purina Animal Nutrition. This event, held in the Richard M. Feldman Grand Prix Field on Sunday, July 7, features jumps that resemble natural obstacles seen in the hunt field with a variety of challenges including stone walls, hedges, logs, banks and ditches.

For the first time ever, show jumping fans across the country and around the world are able to watch competition from the Lake Placid Horse Shows live as it happens. HRTV, The Network for Horse Sports, is offering free live webcasts of all classes in the horse shows’ Grand Prix Field. Admission to the Lake Placid and I Love New York Horse Shows is just $2.00 on weekdays and $5.00 on weekends. Children under the age of 12 are admitted free. Tickets are available at the gate. The horse shows are located at the North Elba Showgrounds, 5514 Cascade Road (Route 73) in Lake Placid, directly across from the ski jumps.
For a special behind-the-scenes look at the horse shows, guided walking tours are offered Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 11:30 a.m. The tour costs just $1.00 and starts at the Lake Placid Horse Show’s Retail Booth.
