East Aurora – August 21, 2012 – Deeridge Farm has taken the first week of the Fieldstone Summer Showcase by storm, scoring top honors in the hunter and jumper rings. Charlie Jacobs led the way with his talented mount Flaming Star, capturing the victory in the $25,000 Fieldstone Grand Prix for the second year in a row. His son, Charlie Jr, was the winner of the $1,500 Dover Children’s Hunter Classic aboard Rainer, and his daughter Katie claimed the Children’s Hunter Horse Championship with Jouet. Melissa Jacobs also earned winning honors to take home the Amateur-Owner Hunter Championship riding So You Say. Finally, Maggie Robinson received the win in the $500 M&S Children’s Hunter Pony Classic aboard Dawn’s Early Light.

The $25,000 Fieldstone Grand Prix was the highlight event on Saturday afternoon. Despite rain on Friday evening, the grass field at Fieldstone held up beautifully, and Charlie easily mastered Philip DeVita Jr.’s first round track to advance to the jump-off with Flaming Star. The pair was the last to tackle the short track, and the clocked in three seconds ahead of the leader to take the winning honors with a fault-free round.
“Flaming Star is one of those horses that the quicker you ride him, the more careful he gets,” explained Charlie. “I think some people saw that when I ran to fence two in the jump off and still had the confidence that he was going to leave it up.”
Earlier in the week, Charlie Sr. and Charlie Jr. competed against one another in the $2,500 Equifit 2’9″ Open Hunter Derby. Charlie Sr piloted Sorcerers Stone to a second place finish, while Charlie Jr. and Rainer captured the fifth place award. “I’m really proud of my son,” smiled Charlie Sr. “He’s been out of the ponies about two years now, and to see him ride out there on the grass field, jumping those jumps, has been really fun.”
Charlie Jr. was also the winner of the $1,500 Dover Children’s Hunter Classic with Rainer, and took home the Children’s Hunter Horse Reserve Championship after his sister Katie stepped up to earn the championship title. Katie and Jouet earned two first place ribbons and two second place ribbons for the prestigious honor.
Charlie Sr also had two nieces competing at the Fieldstone Summer Showcasing. Melissa Jacobs and her veteran partner So You Say were in top form during the Amateur-Owner Hunters, earning two first place ribbons, two second place ribbons, and a third place ribbon for the championship award. In the pony ring, Maggie Robinson showed her mounts Dawn’s Early Light and Carebear to top prizes during the Children’s Pony Hunters, and went on to capture to the first and second place honors in the $500 M&S Children’s Hunter Pony Classic, respectively.
“This horse show has been good to me,” expressed Charlie Sr. “My wife and children are all riding here and it’s about an hour from our home in Weston, so we really make this a family event.”
Deeridge Farm will continue to compete at the Fieldstone Show Park for the second week of the Summer Showcase before returning to New York for the Hampton Classic at the end of August.
