Commonwealth Park Gets a New Look for 2014 HITS Culpeper Season

CULPEPER, VA (July 11, 2013) – HITS, Inc. announced today that Commonwealth Park, home to the HITS Culpeper show series in Virginia, will undergo a complete makeover in 2014. From new stabling to upgraded RV hook-ups, HITS Culpeper will have a new and improved look in time for next year’s spring, summer and fall circuits, which run April through September and include six weeks of competition.

According to HITS President and CEO, Tom Struzzieri, the existing Grand Prix Field will remain and the entire property will be reconfigured around it.

“While we have made significant improvements since we acquired the property in 1997, HITS has decided to give Commonwealth Park a completely new look this time,” he said. “The entire grounds will get a facelift.”

Highlighting the grounds renovations, new barns will be erected with 500 permanent stalls. Bids are already being solicited for the new barns. Additionally, new RV hook-ups will be installed, the restaurant and bathrooms will be completely refurbished, and much of the property will be updated. The competition rings and schooling areas will be reworked, both in terms of footing and layout to improve flow in all areas.

“Customers have been strongly loyal to Commonwealth Park throughout its history, including our 16 years here,” said Struzzieri. “And while HITS has spent tens of millions of dollars on facility upgrades in Saugerties, Thermal and Ocala, Commonwealth Park in Culpeper is now a top priority.”

During the show season, HITS Culpeper provides a selection of competition for varying levels. It is also a pivotal qualifying spot for riders planning to compete at HITS Championship Weekend events in Saugerties, New York, including the HITS $250,000 Hunter Prix Final, the Diamond Mills $500,000 Hunter Prix Final and the Zoetis $1 Million Grand Prix, as well as the Marshall & Sterling Insurance League National Finals.

The renovation project is set to begin at the conclusion of the 2013 show season and will be unveiled by April 1 of next year. Once finalized, a rendering of the property upgrades will be available at HitsShows.com.
