Lexington, KY – August 22, 2013 – Shawn Casady won the opening class in the 2013 Hallway Feeds USHJA National Hunter Derby Series, and he’s been a front runner in the series’ leading rider standings ever since. Following last weeks Bluegrass Festival Horse Show, Casady tops the standings with a total of 975 points.
With both a first and second place finish in the Bluegrass Festival’s $5,000 Hallway Feeds USHJA National Hunter Derby, Meredith Darst sits second with 800 points. Darst’s points also position her as the leading junior rider in the series.
The Hallway Feeds Series consists of seven national hunter derby events held throughout the 2013 show series at the Kentucky Horse Park. Following the final event, the $15,000 Hallway Feeds Leading Rider Awards will present a $10,000 cash prize to the professional rider accumulating the most points in the seven classes that make up the series. The amateur rider and junior rider accumulating the most points will each receive a $2,500 cash prize.
Casady’s first win in the series came aboard Stars Go Blue, owned by Marigot Bay Farm LLC, and he then went on to place third or fourth during each of the next three events. Most recently, Casady finished fifth at the Bluegrass Festival Horse Show, again aboard Stars Go Blue. Darst finished second in both the third and fourth events, and she earned the win at the Bluegrass Festival aboard Lightning Z, owned by Lochmoor Stables. Sarah Sturges currently holds the leading amateur spot, thanks to her consistent rides aboard One Shot.
Riders will receive points only on their highest placed horse in each of the classes. The awards will be presented at the conclusion of the Hallway Feeds class at the Kentucky National Horse Show on September 21, 2013 at the Kentucky Horse Park.
