The Fieldstone Spring Festival Hosts Top Hunter/Jumper Highlights

Halifax, MA – May 11, 2013 – The time is quickly approaching for the long-awaited Fieldstone Spring Festival, the day when the Fieldstone Show Park will surely delight local, regional and national competitors to the newly improved show grounds. Twenty-seven years ago, the Fieldstone Show Park was built to accommodate one-day horse shows, but its demand and prestige has only continued to grow throughout the years, and after a well-deserved two-phase overhaul, the show grounds are sure to impress and bring in top competition during the Fieldstone Spring Festival.

The Fieldstone Spring Festival will mark the beginning of top competition from May 15-19, 2013, at the Fieldstone Show Park in Halifax, MA. Jumper highlights include the $7,500 Open Speed Derby and the $7,500 Welcome Stake. The most anticipated jumper event of the week will take place on Saturday, May 18, where the top riders in the nation will gather on the all-grass Grand Prix field for the $25,000 Fieldstone Grand Prix. The distinguished class offers the eligibility for riders to be included in the Rolex/USEF Show Jumping Ranking List.

Last year, Jean Sheptoff piloted A Mi Des Gemmes to the top of the leader board in the $25,000 Fieldstone Grand Prix. It was filled with nail-biting excitement as spectators looked out onto the field to see some of the top names in the industry race against the timers for their chance at victory. The horse and rider combination returned for the Plymouth Rock Classic $25,000 Fieldstone Grand Prix to defend their title, and came out shining once again with the lion’s share of the prize money.

The $7,500 Open Speed Derby and the $7,500 Welcome Stake will also take place on the all-grass Grand Prix field, offering a change of venue and footing for many of the horses and their riders. Last year David Tromp and Zidane Z took the blue ribbon in the $7,500 Welcome Stake, while Kristen Bumpus and Cupid secured the win in the $7,500 Open Speed Derby.

The jumpers will also have the chance to showcase their mounts during the Open Jumper sections, as well as the 5, 6 & 7/8 Year Old Young Jumpers. Junior and Amateur-Owner Jumpers will take their turn against the clock in the Grand Prix ring, striving to take the top award in the $5,000 High Junior/Amateur-Owner Show Jumping Hall of Fame (SJHOF) Jumper Classic and the $3,000 Low Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic. The Children’s/Adult Jumpers will work throughout the week to ride to the top of the leader board during the $2,500 Children’s/Adult Jumper Classic.

The week of premier hunter showing will include the $10,000 3’3″ Hunter Derby, the $2,500 2’9″ Hunter Derby and the $2,500 Pony Classic. These classes will offer hunter riders the chance to compete on the grass field, showcasing their talents with their mounts. The derbies will be reminiscent of a hunt field with natural fences and shrubbery. Professionals, juniors and amateurs alike are welcome to compete.

On Friday, May 17, riders will gather on the grass field to take their turn at the challenging hunter derby courses. Beginning at 8 am, riders will have the opportunity to participate in the 2’9″ and 3’3″ Derby Warm-Up sections. Around 11:30 am, the $2,500 2’9″ Hunter Derby will commence. After a pair claims victory in the 2’9″ division, the fences will be raised to 3’3″ for the next set of competition. At precisely 3 pm, the $10,000 3’3″ Hunter Derby will begin.

The final day of competition will begin with the $1,500 Adult Hunter Classic. The Fieldstone Spring Festival is one of the few horse shows to host classes on the Grand Prix field for the adults, children and pony riders alike. Soon after the Adult Hunter Classic is pinned, the $1,500 Children’s Hunter Classic will have its turn in the limelight, and the day will conclude with the $2,500 Pony Hunter Classic.

While competing at the Fieldstone Show Park this spring and summer, exhibitors and their families will have the opportunity to explore Boston and Cape Cod. They can also take a short drive to the Plymouth waterfront to experience whale watches and visit historic Plymouth Plantation and The Mayflower.
