Lexington, KY – (March 7, 2013) The Thoroughbred Horse Show Association is taking entries for its second Spring Show on April 14 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. The event follows TBHS’s successful inaugural shows in 2012 in which more than 200 Thoroughbreds of all ages competed in a variety of classes using their registered names with The Jockey Club.
TBHS was founded in 2011 by a group of Central Kentuckians interested in creating opportunities to showcase the talent and competitive spirit of off-the-track Thoroughbreds. Shows are affiliated with The Jockey Club Thoroughbred Incentive Program (T.I.P.), which encourages the retraining of Thoroughbreds into other disciplines upon the completion of their careers in racing or breeding.
Entries for the Spring Show close April 1; some late entries may be taken with a late fee.
The Spring Show builds on the success of the first TBHS events in 2012 and will offer complimentary class fees for horses that have been adopted since November 2012. Several horses competing in the show will be available for sale or adoption.
“Our goal is to help as many Thoroughbreds as possible get quality show experience to increase their value as potential sport horses,” said TBHS Executive Director Jan Roehl. “By offering complimentary class fees, we hope to encourage just that.
“We are really excited about the response to these shows and are working to expand them to help as many riders and horses as possible,” Roehl added. “With the support of our sponsors, we are able to double the number of show rings from last year and continue to hold the event at a world-class venue such as the Kentucky Horse Park.”
To date, 2013 sponsors represent organizations from across the United States and include Akindale Thoroughbred Rescue, Bantry Farms, Hallway Feeds, The Jockey Club, Juddmonte Farms, Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company (OBS), Taylor Made and Winter Quarter South. Additional sponsorship opportunities are available.
The Spring Show will offer prize money, thanks to OBS and The Jockey Club T.I.P. OBS is hosting a $500 Gamblers Choice, a competition in which each fence will have a point value and riders will create their own courses. The Jockey Club is sponsoring a $200 Jumper Classic, Cross Rails Championship, and Handy Hunter Championship along with providing awards in Dressage and Show Jumping.
