By Jan Westmark-Allan If you followed the Sidelines Magazine OTTB (off-the-track-Thoroughbred) Photo Contest , then you know that judging the contest wasn’t going to be easy. It was a “PHOTO” contest – so our judges (an independent panel, unpaid) judged based on the photo and the description of the photo. I am thankful I didn’t have to help judge (too much pressure!!) but I am thrilled with their results and I think they did a great job! The best part of the contest – as I know all of you will agree – was seeing the hundreds and hundreds of photos of rescued OTTBs now living their amazing and wonderful lives! It brings tears to my eyes just to think of all of the people who rescued former racehorses – I am so proud of all of you – you are all winners in my book!! The four top winners and four top runner-ups will appear in the May issue of Sidelines – the 20 Honorable Mention photos will only appear on the website (and in another blog I will post soon).

All photos by Alan Fabricant More flying ponies were spotted in Wellie World (a nickname for Wellington, Florida)this weekend – which translates to fast galloping polo ponies!! Photographer Alan Fabricant (www.alfabphoto.com) was on hand for the action and sent me photos. I love the photos, like the one above, where no hooves are on the ground – that pony is flying! This weekend they played the qualifying game for the USPA Piaget Gold Cup and Audi beat Alegria and Veliente beat Coca Cola

Sidelines Magazine OTTB Photo Contest “Beyond the Track and Under Tack” Sponsored by Fenwick Equestrian Products and OnTyte Magnetic Stirrup System Contest runs March 2 – 16 One entry per person – no professional photos allowed, unless submitted by the professional photographer Sidelines Magazine is a big fan of Off the Track Thoroughbreds (OTTBs) – and we know you are too! We want to see photos of your OTTBs – so the search is on! They can be photos around the barn, at a show, or even in the horse’s former life on the track. The OTTB doesn’t have to belong to you – it can be a horse you ride, admire or wish you owned! No professional photos – unless the professional photographer submits them!! And only one entry per person.
