FOR HORSE PEOPLE • ABOUT HORSE PEOPLE
SIDELINES AUGUST 2012 17
Tom Brennan started showing seriously a few years ago
for Tony Workman, which led to their business partnership
at Winter Hill Farm (Hillsboro, VA). Tom noted two best
moments: “Going to Derby Finals and last year when Purple
Heart was grand hunter champion at Upperville. To me that
was a dream come true: great owner, great horse, great team
and everyone worked hard to get there.” Tom’s sense of
humor is a great strength and he laughed about his fashion
sense: “When I’m not riding, I like button-downs like Ralph
Lauren Polo. Anything casual. I don’t like getting super
dressed up – I don’t want to take all the shine away from my
[gorgeous] wife. I’m pretty plain with jeans: I have a couple
pairs of J Crew that I like. Converse are my favorite footwear,
but to ride in, Vogels. Tailored Sportsman, the old kind,
because I hate tight breeches.”
Cristina Maria Hosmer (Potomac,
MD) set her jumper sights on
grand prix until she got hooked
on polo. In June she moved her
jumpers to train with Benjamin
Meredith at Raylynn Farms
(Maryland); but plans her week
around polo with some modeling
thrown into the mix. Her polo
mentor is John Gobin of Great
Meadow Polo (Virginia) where
she’ll be playing in a few Twilight
Polo matches and also on the
grass in the four-goal league.
Playing for Bulgari in the 2012
Miami Beach Women’s Polo
World Cup, Cristina scored six
goals, including the decider, 1-0,
in the last 10 seconds of the fnals
against Team Ciroc. “My fashion
favorites this season are the pants
by Polista that I’m wearing in that
photo. There’s nothing like a good
pair of white jeans on and off the
polo feld! I wear white jeans a lot
and pair them with a lightweight
scarf and top or dress them up
with a silk blouse.”

Georgina Bloomberg, jumper rider behind The Rider’s Closet,
has added yet another feather to her helmet by writing show-
placed novels, “The A Circuit” and “My Favorite Mistake”,
with Catherine Hapka: “Ariat sponsors me and I like all the
products, especially the boots. I was always wearing boots
without a lot of sole and cushion: they hurt my back and knees.
Ariats have been really great and have defnitely helped. The
shirts and jackets have a bit of stretch and it’s nice to be able
to move my arms.” Away from horses, Georgina admits that
she used to be a tomboy but now enjoys getting dressed up:
“I love clothes. I like to try new trends and experience up-
and-coming designers from New York. I’ll pair a tee shirt from
Target with a Gucci bag.”
