FOR HORSE PEOPLE • ABOUT HORSE PEOPLE
By Carrie Wirth
Three generations
of Colorado’s Coors
family have discovered
their passion for a
triad of sport horse
disciplines. Just over
two years ago, Brad
and
Kathy
Coors’
children – triplets –
had their first riding
lesson. Now the family
is showing, foxhunting,
playing
polo
and
having the time of their
lives.
Kathy Coors became
acquainted with Glee
White,
trainer
at
Endeavor Farm, at the
Colorado Horse Park,
through their work on
the Coors Western Art
Exhibit and Sale. Kathy and husband, Brad, serve as title
sponsors and Glee, who attended Rhode Island School of
Design, assisted the curator.
“Kathy and Brad first brought the kids out to ride with me in
January of 2011,” Glee said. “The kids showed up in sweat
pants and psychedelic ropers. I got out my ancient, retired
grand prix horse and polo pony – an absolutely bombproof
saint – and another pony. It had been a long time since I’d
done a group beginner lesson.”
“She had the most fabulous horses for us to ride,” Kathy
said. “We just started from there. The kids (Cecily, Joseph
and William) rode for a couple of months. Then later, my
mom and I came
out for a lesson. So
now we have three
generations
riding
together.”
Now
12-years-
old, the triplets are
individuals with very
distinct personalities.
Since they started
riding,
they’ve
gravitated
toward
different disciplines.
But at first, the triplets
all
showed
atop
three unintentionally
matched gray ponies.
“Cecily is a crack-
up,” Glee said. “She
is an absolute stitch.
Joseph is a little more
shy and conservative.
He is a very sweet
kid. William is very
cerebral left-brain thinker, he’s very much the scientist.”
“The kids started showing in the short stirrup,” Glee said.
“Then, our local association created a baby jumper division
just for the kids. They jumped 18 inches but they jumped in a
jumper format learning all the jumper tables and rules. They
definitely got in trouble with me if they went too fast. But they
started out right away in the jumper ring.”
“Cecily has really pursued show jumping,” Kathy shared.
“We had a great winter at Thermal. She was just Champion
at HITS Thermal in the Modified Child/Adult Jumpers with
her pony, Monstarz Superfly.”
“Glee introduced all the children to polo,” Kathy continued.
