TAA Foundation pays meticulous attention to detail, including

The TAA Foundation’s code of standards and accreditation process
have been reviewed and approved by the American Humane
Association and by the American Association of Equine Practitioners.

“When you are accredited with the TAA Foundation, you agree
to adhere to our code of standards and you must agree to surprise
inspections,” explained James. “We have protocols for following
up on adoptees and retirees, as well as for how the grant money is
spent. The care of the horses is our priority. At the moment we’re
reviewing 29 applications — 40 started the process, but only 29
made the May 15 deadline. We’re on track to award $2 million
dollars in grant money this December.”
That seems like a lot of money, but it’s quite expensive to
maintain horses, even those who are retired. Ask anyone who
owns a horse, let alone anyone whose efforts to run an aftercare
facility failed: money is the bottom line. The dual nature of the
TAA Foundation covers a lot of question marks and variables with
