On Friday, January 27th, the United States Equestrian Team Foundation hosted a benefit event at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center in Wellington, FL. With over 500 guests in attendance, “An English Country Evening” featured honorary chairs NBC Today Show host Matt Lauer and his wife Annette, an avid equestrian. The celebratory evening included award presentations, an elegant dinner and a lively auction, which helped raise over one million dollars for the USET Foundation. Photo courtesy of PMG

Catching up:  Congratulations to Hap Hansen, grand prix rider and West Coast legend who rode to his 99th grand prix win on Sunday, February 12th, in the $30,000 SmartPak Grand Prix at HITS Thermal! 

Robbie Hunt joined the staff at Stransky’s Mission Farm as trainer, adding his hunter know how to their winning jumper team.  We hear that after all the work gets done, the horses are put away, Robbie, Liliane Stransky and her daughters Samantha, author Kathy Andersen, trainer Hector Florentino and a bunch of the Step by Step juniors including Daniela Stransky, Emanuel Andrade and Jose Fernando Bonetti head back to PBIEC to kick up their heels on the dance floor on Saturday nights.

Some of the “big boys” of Wellingtonare shopping for real estate outside of town.  Does this mean there is a big move a foot?

It was great to see Sidelines Publisher, Samantha Charles back on the scene inWellington even though it was only for a short week.

USHJA Zone 4 stepped up to the plate and offered its members a free clinic with Karen Healy.  What a great idea on behalf of the zone members and congrats to all for putting this together.  The clinic was oversubscribed within 24 hours of the announcement. 

Horse Show News:  USEF President David O’Connor issued a Presidential Modification waiving the requirement for including aLiverpool jump in USEF Show Jumping Talent Search classes at all rated competitions, with the exception of ‘AA’ rated outdoor events where a water jump of specific dimensions remains a course requirement.  This Presidential Modification is granted for the first half of the 2012 qualifying period only, specifically September 1, 2011 until April 1, 2012.

Working Equitation is sweeping the globe, with high-level competition in both Europe and the Americas. Haras dos Cavaleiros is bringing Working Equitation to the 2012 Pin Oak Charity Horse Show in Katy, Texas, with three levels of competition and a course designed by the first World Champion of Working Equitation, Jorge De Sousa of Portugal.  On March 22 and 23, during Week One of the show’s two-week run, Pin Oak will host Championships in three levels, Novice, Basic and Intermediate. Open to all breeds, the three levels of Working Equitation competition offers $1,950 in prize money at each level, plus ribbons for each phase, and trophies.  The event is sponsored by Lusitano breeder Haras Dos Cavaleiros of Magnolia,Texas

ASPCA Maclay trainers gathered recently to review new and improved ideas regarding the much-anticipated ASPCA Maclay National Championships.  Taylor Harris Insurance Services sponsored the meeting.  This year’s Championship event will be held during the Alltech National Horse Show, 129th edition, at the Alltech Arena in Lexington, Kentucky on November 4, 2012.  Show managers, Leo Conroy and Hugh Kincannon, joined Alltech National Horse Show Association President, Mason Phelps on panel as all three highly respected industry leaders participated in asking questions and providing feedback for any suggested upgrades.  Prominent trainers such as Stacia Madden and Andre Dignelli extended concepts that were well received by the show committee and well noted.

New Baby Department:  Little Baby Burton arrived on Sunday, January 22nd at 5:45 a.m. weighing 7 lbs. and 14 ozs.  Iris is the new daughter of Richard and Hannah Burton.
