2014 National Horse Show Highlights & Photo Gallery by Kim & Allen MacMillan/MacMillan Photography & Media Services The 131 st renewal of the historic National Horse Show is now in the record books as of last Sunday afternoon. This year’s show, held for the fourth year in a row at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, featured:  Amateur Owner, Professional and Junior Hunter classes from Tuesday through Saturday; a three-phase $15,000 Under 25 Grand Prix competition sponsored by Sleepy P Ranch and Deeridge Farm; an in-costume $45,000 Chansonette Farm Gambler’s Choice class on Halloween (Friday); the $250,000 Canadian Pacific Grand Prix on Saturday, and the ASPCA Maclay Medal Equitation Finals on Sunday. The show was founded in 1883 by a group of affluent businessmen.

Over the past 2 days dog receiving has been inundated with dogs coming in. It has been horrific, people lined up outside of the room, waiting to surrender our 4-legged-friends. Euthanasia for “space” (especially with larger dogs) has inevitably increased due to this disturbing spike

WASHINGTON (March 1, 2013) – The Humane Society of the United States, the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), Front Range Equine Rescue and Animal Protection of New Mexico strongly criticized a decision by the Obama administration to process an application for inspecting horse slaughter at a New Mexico facility on the grounds that killing horses for human consumption is inhumane and creates a serious health risk to consumers.   If the application is approved, Valley Meat Company LLC will be the first facility in the U.S. to slaughter horses for human consumption since 2007, when the few remaining plants closed after Congress chose to eliminate funding for horse meat inspections

Sponsored again this year by Alltech (whose international headquarters is in the Lexington suburb Nicholasville, KY), the show was first held in 1883 at the original Madison Square Garden in New York City. The 2011 Alltech National Horse Show was named the top U.S.
