The Hopeful Amateur Hits the Big Times at Rolex Kentucky, Part 2

Tuesday, April 29 2014 by Editor
Well another Rolex has come and gone, but this will certainly be one I will remember fondly for a long time to come. Friday, the second day of dressage, was the only day of the weekend that saw bad weather but that didn’t stop nearly 14,000 people from attending

Getting involved in Lexington’s equine community, even without a horse of my own

Sunday, April 13 2014 by Editor
This weekend from the beach in Florida, I finally had a few moments to reflect on everything that’s taken place since our move back to Lexington. And I’ve realized that even without a horse of my own, I’ve had a lot of great opportunities to get involved in Lexington’s equine community.  I would encourage other hopeful amateurs that may also happen to be horseless at the moment to find ways to get involved in their local equine community.

Road to the Horse 2014

Tuesday, March 25 2014 by Editor
Lexington has been through one of its most trying winters in decades and it is still not over. Sunny, 70 degree days are enjoyed once or twice a week only to be followed by a day or two of bitter cold and even more snow

Trying to express what a beloved mount means to an equestrian is really, really hard.

Monday, March 17 2014 by Editor
In exactly one emotional whirlwind of a month, my life has undergone some tremendous changes.  My long-term boyfriend successfully completed and graduated from one long year of intense Army pilot training-something that tested us but made our relationship stronger in the end.  I also said goodbye to my lease horse, Bentley, and uprooted my life in small town Alabama to move back to Lexington, KY. I know I have mentioned Bentley in previous blogs but I’ve never fully explained how he came to be mine for one wonderful year and why I made the painful but necessary choice not to purchase him.

Amidst a hectic time, I loved every second of my first visit to Ocala.

Wow! It has been an eventful couple of weeks but I finally have a moment to write a little about everything that has been going on in my life. January 25th marked one year since we moved to Enterprise, Alabama

Horseware Ireland is Looking for a Hopeful Amateur to Sponsor!

Tuesday, February 11 2014 by Editor
While checking out grand prix show-jumper Saer Coulter’s Facebook page the other day, I saw a post she shared about a contest being held by one of her prestigious sponsors, Horseware Ireland.  Their “Grassroots Rider” competition is looking for a dedicated, amateur horse and rider duo to add to the Horseware Team, which includes some of the world’s most elite equestrians. The winner will receive a one year sponsorship deal that includes  €10,000  and personalized Horseware Ireland gear for you and your horse to sport around the show grounds.

When There is Only Hope and Horses, Part 1

Friday, January 10 2014 by Editor
Hello all and welcome to the world of The Hopeful Amateur! As Sidelines’ newest writer, I will have a monthly column about the equestrian world from a novice amateur’s point of view featured in Sidelines’ digital magazine as well as my blog, where I’ll write about my adventures and experiences even more often.  The following is the first half of my story about my life and love of horses.    From a very young age, all I wanted to do was ride horses. Photos courtesy of The Christopherson Family   Riding my lease horse, Bentley, this past September in Alabama.
