CHEERING FOR CALIFORNIA CHROME

Friday, May 30 2014 by Editor
We love Thoroughbreds and in the course of our life we have galloped racehorses, worked with OTTBs to learn to be show hunters and field hunters, and one very memorable year, we worked with Concisely, by Cormier  out of a mare named Marcelene, who ranks as one of the best jumpers we have ever had the pleasure of riding (funny story about that very opinionated mare some other post). In the course of our love affair with Thoroughbreds – flat track racehorses and steeplechasers over hurdles and timber – and all the stories we have researched and written, there is one element that stands out: the sire is very important, but the dam contributes just as much, often more, to the foal. A good mare with an average stallion can produce lightning in a bottle, so to speak.

William Fox-Pitt won his third Rolex championship and watch in five years – on the less experienced of his two horses, Bay My Hero, with Seacookie TSF earning ninth place. William rode both horses to clear cross-country rounds (no jump penalties), although Seacookie picked up 7.2 time penalties. In the final show jumping test, both horses jumped double clear (no time, no jump penalties)

Pre-PS: Sorry for the mistake in original post – our bad – when we identified Sinead and Tate as Lauren and Veronica – big oopsie! – we know the difference, but were dazzled by smiles and feeling a wee bit fatiqued after an exhilarating Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event, presented by Land Rover. Also, stay tuned for a post about the inaugural Dubarry of Ireland Nations Team Challenge, won by the USA – Lsuren Kieffer/Veronica, Sinead Halpin/Manboir de Carneville and Buck Davidson/Ballynoe Castle RM. We think that’s the main reason why we inserted Sinead’s photo by mistake – we noticed the blue rosette and kicked on with our brain asleep at the mouse… NEW IMPROVED POST RE ROLEX KENTUCKY 3-Day Event, presented by Land Rover: William Fox-Pitt won his third Rolex championship and watch in five years – on the less experienced of his two horses, Bay My Hero, with Seacookie TSF earning ninth place

Must Share Story From Eventing Nation

Wednesday, October 31 2012 by Editor
Okay, we know – we’ve been AWOL, so to speak, since the Warrenton Horse Show & Warrenton Hunt Night, but it’s been wickedly crazy and now, in the aftermath of frankenstorm Sandy, we have power back in record time and we spent a few minutes catching up on what’s happening out in the world… One thing we never thought we’d see is a piece of fiction (well, truth is always stranger than fiction) on Eventing Nation, but that’s exactly what you will read when you click into Eventing Nation’s Visionaire: Happy Halloween: A Ghost Story – highly recommended reading! This tale called “Charlie Feathers” by Shelby Weeks packed a lot into a short story, and it’s all positive – about how spirits can continue to do “good” from the other side of the rainbow bridge… Kudos to Visionaire for running this piece in their Eventing Nation post! By the way, we sure would love to know more about Shelby Weeks who has written other pieces of short fiction, but we can’t find a website or even a bibliography (in a hurry as usual, deadlines, of course). So, if y’all have any info on the writer Shelby Weeks, please send it to us at: laurengallops@gmail.com Happy Hallowe’en & blessings to everyone in the aftermath of the Sandy storm! We managed to get in a few days chasing around the countryside with a lovely pack of Thornton Hill Hounds and even one day out with Old Dominion Hounds (not this photo). This image is from the Thornton Hill meet before a Sunday cubhunt in September with good friends (l-r) Brandy McDonald of The Fine Equine: polo pro Martin Maldonado of Polo at Blue Rock; yours truly (we really must find our hairnet, buy new one or, preferably, cut our curly locks!), and Kim Love of Polo at Blue Rock.
