KARIBU – Welcome to Kenya!
Thursday, June 20 2013
by Editor
First impressions – it was all very easy, albeit a long amount of time in the air – from the US to Heathrow, two hour layover and then another seven hours to Nairobi, whose time zone in seven hours ahead of the US, the UK is six hours ahed of the US (we think) – time has gotten surreal, but we digress. We landed at Nairobi International around 9:30 in the evening, right on time, and it was an easy walk to passport control – they sent us to desks marked Kenya only and the attendants stamped us through quite quickly (we had all applied for our visas back in the states).

About To Take Off On A Really Big Adventure
Monday, June 17 2013
by Editor
For some reason, the title is as far as we got yesterday at Dulles International Airport – don’t ask, cuz we haven’t the foggiest clue. We couldn’t type once we keyed in the title, it was a bit strange. It’s been a strange few weeks – almost surreal

ROLEX – results recap – sort of…
Sunday, April 28 2013
by Editor
Okay, we have made it through an outstanding long weekend of Rolex Kentucky Three-day Event, presented Land Rover, and the equestrian triathlon did not disappoint. However, we’re in a bit of a tizz – first of all, Sidelines blogger and freelance photographer Beth Harpham is back in the hospital thanks – or no thanks – to that pesky pinched nerve in her back

ROLEX: Friday Dressage Update (Saturday morning)
Saturday, April 27 2013
by Editor
Chilli Morning was cool as you-know-what when he and William Fox-Pitt (GBR) absolutely aced the dressage test to earn 33.3 penalty points, thereby commanding first place on the leaderboard. This is not a surprise if you have seen William Fox-Pitt in action, and also he has won two Rolexes – 2010 & 2012.

ROLEX – Friday morning update
Friday, April 26 2013
by Editor
Well, for our 8th Rolex, this week can be described quite nicely by that great song Truckin’ by The Grateful Dead (yep, classic rocker all the way) by the line: What a long, strange trip it’s been!!!! We have spent 12 hours-plus on the road to Rolex with that breakdown – we had just crossed over the line to W. Virginia on I-64 – but what great local people. All’s well that ends well.

It’s Time to Jog at Rolex!
Thursday, April 25 2013
by Editor
By Jan Westmark-Allan All of the horses passed the jog yesterday, despite the fact that it was a wet, wild and windy day! Today is cold and beautiful in the BlueGrass State and at the Kentucky Horse Park! We have purchased New Vocations sweatshirts to stay warm – and just got back from watching the Friesian demonstration! Dressage is half way through today, and is going great. Here are a few photos of yesterday’s jog. (All jog photos by Beth Harpham) William Fox-Pitt and Seacookie

Must Share Story From Eventing Nation
Wednesday, October 31 2012
by Editor
Okay, we know – we’ve been AWOL, so to speak, since the Warrenton Horse Show & Warrenton Hunt Night, but it’s been wickedly crazy and now, in the aftermath of frankenstorm Sandy, we have power back in record time and we spent a few minutes catching up on what’s happening out in the world… One thing we never thought we’d see is a piece of fiction (well, truth is always stranger than fiction) on Eventing Nation, but that’s exactly what you will read when you click into Eventing Nation’s Visionaire: Happy Halloween: A Ghost Story – highly recommended reading! This tale called “Charlie Feathers” by Shelby Weeks packed a lot into a short story, and it’s all positive – about how spirits can continue to do “good” from the other side of the rainbow bridge… Kudos to Visionaire for running this piece in their Eventing Nation post! By the way, we sure would love to know more about Shelby Weeks who has written other pieces of short fiction, but we can’t find a website or even a bibliography (in a hurry as usual, deadlines, of course). So, if y’all have any info on the writer Shelby Weeks, please send it to us at: laurengallops@gmail.com Happy Hallowe’en & blessings to everyone in the aftermath of the Sandy storm! We managed to get in a few days chasing around the countryside with a lovely pack of Thornton Hill Hounds and even one day out with Old Dominion Hounds (not this photo). This image is from the Thornton Hill meet before a Sunday cubhunt in September with good friends (l-r) Brandy McDonald of The Fine Equine: polo pro Martin Maldonado of Polo at Blue Rock; yours truly (we really must find our hairnet, buy new one or, preferably, cut our curly locks!), and Kim Love of Polo at Blue Rock.

Warrent♥n Horse Show – Friday Neighs, um, News
Saturday, September 01 2012
by Editor
Okay, we really do ♥ Warrenton Horse Show, and we have a fun post for you, albeit later than we wanted to deliver it – partly because of the Burghley Horse Trials in England where two American event riders, short-listed for Olympics, topped the standings after dressage by taking FIRST & SECOND!!!! We are absolutely thrilled for Sinead Halpin & Manoir de Carneville, the 2011 USEF National 4-Star Champions were left off the US Olympic team for London – FIRST AFTER DRESSAGE AND DOUBLE CLEAR ON THE XC to improve their hold on first with a score of 36.3, their personal best dressage score to date. Lots of information at Eventing Nation , and a great post by John of EN saying lovely things about Sinead and Allison. We ♥ Eventing Nation for running the live feed by Horse & Hound !!! Of course, following the XC action at Burghley meant huge delays to writing this post because we kept jumping to EN to read H&H’s live feed coverage, but now it’s a done deal.
