It was a “Dog’s Day Out” at The 2014 Lake Placid Horse Shows

Lake Placid, NY–July 10, 2014–On Sunday, July 6, the Lake Placid Horse Shows hosted their 22nd Annual Doggie Costume Contest, a popular competition at the show. All people with leashed dogs in costume were admitted to the horse show free of charge, and the contestants from the horse show and the local community took center stage in a special ring set up near the horse show’s Richard M. Feldman Grand Prix Field. The contest co-sponsors, Animal Planet and The Brown Dog Café & Wine Bar, presented the awards to this year’s “top dogs.” All canine contestants went home with a special event bag of doggie treats! Rascal, a 4-year-old Shetland Sheepdog owned by Bruno Freeman of Bloomingdale, NY, took top honors as “China Dog.” Rascal received 4 scores of a perfect 10 with only one judge giving him an 8.5.

June 25, 2014; Wiesbaden, Germany – Fromthe 6 th to the 9 th of June, Germany played host to an exciting weekend of equestrian competition in jumping, dressage and eventing as the 78 th Pfingst-Turnier Wiesbaden 2014 began. We love Thoroughbreds and in the course of our life we have galloped racehorses, worked with OTTBs to learn to be show hunters and field hunters, and one very memorable year, we worked with Concisely, by Cormier out of a mare named Marcelene, who ranks as one of the best jumpers we have ever had the pleasure of riding (funny story about that very opinionated mare some other post). In the course of our love affair with Thoroughbreds – flat track racehorses and steeplechasers over hurdles and timber – and all the stories we have researched and written, there is one element that stands out: the sire is very important, but the dam contributes just as much, often more, to the foal. A good mare with an average stallion can produce lightning in a bottle, so to speak.

William Fox-Pitt won his third Rolex championship and watch in five years – on the less experienced of his two horses, Bay My Hero, with Seacookie TSF earning ninth place. William rode both horses to clear cross-country rounds (no jump penalties), although Seacookie picked up 7.2 time penalties. In the final show jumping test, both horses jumped double clear (no time, no jump penalties)
