This marks the third year that the SJHOF Jumper Classic Series has held a West Coast Championship Final in addition to its traditional Final at the National Horse Show in Lexington, Kentucky.
It was tough competition as only four horse-and-rider combinations out of the 24 starters made it through to the jump-off. Riding Monarch International’s Axl Rose, Von Heidegger produced a clear round in the fastest time of 28.877 seconds to clinch the win. It was a great day for Von Heidegger who also won the $5,000 NAL West Coast Low Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Final that same day.
After the first two riders in the jump-off had faults, Saree Kayne of Santa Monica, CA, and her own Woodpecker de Villar took the lead with a clean ride, crossing the timers in 30.05 seconds. As the last to go, Von Heidegger knew what she had to do and she pulled it off to win the class and drop Kayne to second place.
“It was nice getting to go last because I got to see what I needed to do to win,” said a smiling Heidegger. “It was a great jump-off and really fast. There were a lot of great riders in there!”
Sydney Callaway of San Diego, CA, and Callaway Stables LLC’s Wolf S took third place with four penalties, while Kelsey Van Ackeren and her own Vernon G took fourth place with a total of eight penalties.
Following the class, Michelle Kerivan of Huntington Beach, CA, was honored for winning the West Coast’s Amateur-Owner division of the Show Jumping Hall of Fame Jumper Classic Series.
