May 7, 2013 – The Dressage Foundation is pleased to announce that Allison Spivey of Aroda, VA, is the 2013 recipient of the $500 Trip Harting Grant. Allison plans to use the funds to continue her education in the United States Dressage Federation ‘L’ Education Program.
Allison graduated from the Rapidan River Pony Club (VA) as only the 11th person in the nation to receive a Dressage Specialty A rating. She is currently an assistant trainer for Lauren Sprieser, is a Bronze and Silver Medalist, and volunteers as an instructor for two area Pony Clubs. Allison has completed the A, B, and C sections of the ‘L’ Education Program and will complete the D1, D2, and exam sections in 2014. About attending the ‘L’ Education Program, Allison said, “This will continue the education that the United States Pony Club provided me as a young person, and will be a jumping-off point to continue my education and development as a rider, trainer, and hopefully a judge.”
Trip’s friends, students, and admirers established this Fund at The Dressage Foundation in his memory. Trip, a beloved judge, coach and clinician, passed away in August 2008. The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial assistance for a Pony Club rider to attend the USDF ‘L’ Education Program or Instructor Certification Program. Applicants must be current or graduate Pony Club members with a B or A rating.
The Trip Harting Fund will continue to grow over time as new donations flow into The Dressage Foundation. The Foundation will continue to award grants based on recommendations of the Selection Committee for as long as the Fund balance allows. Applications are due to the Foundation in March of each year.
