Chagrin Valley Hunter Jumper Classic Begins July 8

New this year – National Hunter Classic and a Second Grand Prix
MORELAND HILLS, Ohio – June 28, 2011 – The Chagrin Valley Hunter Jumper Classic opens next Friday, July 8, at the Cleveland Metroparks Polo Field in Moreland Hills, Ohio, and will run through Saturday, July 23. Competitors from around the country will be traveling to the Chagrin Valley for this prestigious event.

The Chagrin Valley Hunter Jumper Classic will begin with the Schneider Saddlery Opening Weekend, Friday, July 8 through Sunday, July 10, featuring local competitors. Opening day, Friday, July 8, the Classic will once again welcome the Riders with Disabilities competition, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Hosted by Fieldstone Farm Therapeutic Riding Center (FFTRC), this competition gives local riders with disabilities the chance to show off the skills they have learned throughout the year at FFTRC. 

The first week of national competition will run from Wednesday, July 13 to Sunday, July 17, followed by the second week of national competition, Tuesday, July 19 through Saturday, July 23. New this year, both weeks of national competition are rated “AA” hunters and level 4 jumpers.

Competition Highlights
The $10,000 Welcome Stake will be held after 5:30 p.m. on Friday, July 15. The $10,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby will take place after 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 16.

Sunday, July 17, will open with hunter and jumper classics at 8 a.m. Grand prix festivities will begin at 1:30 p.m. and the highlight of the Classic, the $30,000 Cleveland Grand Prix, begins at 2:30 p.m. The Cleveland Grand Prix, North America’s first show jumping grand prix, debuted at the Cleveland Metroparks Polo Field in 1965.

New this year, there will be a second grand prix at the Classic! The final day of competition, Saturday, July 23, will open at 8 a.m. with jumper classics, followed by the new $5,000 USHJA National Hunter Classic at 9 a.m., and will conclude with the debut of the $25,000 CVPHA Grand Prix. Festivities begin at 1:30 p.m. and competition begins at 2:30 p.m.

Ticket PricesGeneral admission tickets are free July 8-14; $5 Adult/$3 Senior and 12 & under on July 15; $5 Adult/$3 Senior/Free 12 & under on July 16; $10 Adult/$5 Senior and 12 & under on July 17; and free July 19-23. Tickets are available at the gate. Classic Box Seating is available in advance by calling 330-903-9915.

The Classic is presented by the Chagrin Valley PHA (Professional Horsemen’s Association) Horse Show, Inc. This nonprofit organization, headed by a voluntary Board of Trustees, is comprised of local residents, business leaders and equestrians who run the show with a large team of volunteers.
