UCONN Hosting USPA National Girls’ Interscholastic Polo Championship Tournament

WHAT: Kicking off polo’s version of March Madness, the University of Connecticut is set to host the United States Polo Association (USPA) Girls’ National Interscholastic Championship tournament March 7-10 in Storrs, Connecticut. Defending champion Maryland made their way back to the national tournament this year with a regional championship victory and will face strong competition from additional regional tournament winners UCONN, Culver, and Maui, along with wild card selectee Newport. The event will showcase the growing landscape of women’s polo, which is the fastest growing demographic of U.S. polo.

The USPA Girls’ National Interscholastic Championship tournament is part of the USPA Interscholastic/Intercollegiate (I/I) polo program, which has experienced tremendous recent growth in all facets including tournaments, teams and players. With the dedication of its participants and growing popularity surrounding the sport, I/I polo added 31 new teams from 2010 to 2012 for a total of 113 going into this season. The unprecedented expansion supports I/I polo’s mission to grow the sport by providing maximum exposure, recruiting collegiate and scholastic institutions and coordinate activities and organized competition.
