Catching up:  Louise Serio is on a roll this summer, starting off with six tricolor ribbons during the two week’s of competition of the Kentucky Spring Horse Shows.  She also placed in the Top 10 with Rock Star during the $15,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby held on during the first week of competition.

Georgina Bloomberg launched her first teen novel The A Circuit (Bloomsbury, original paperback, $9.99) set within the equestrian world she knows so well.  Co-written with Cathy Hapka, Georgina brings an authenticity and flair to the books that will entice as much as they will fascinate.  The second novel in the series, entitled My Favorite Mistake, is scheduled to be released in March 2012.

Geoff Teal is RETIRING?????  Not to worry……he is still stabled year round at Palm Beach Equine Sports Complex in Wellington and rumor has it will be starting up doing some top notch clinics out of the Sports Complex.

And speaking of clinics,  foxhunter Paul Striberry will be conducting clinics this summer for Kripalu Center, Omega institute, Apple Knoll Farm and Hunter’s Rest.

Seeing double?  Maybe not…twin brothers Steve Di Carlo of Benchmark Equestrian, FL and Kris Di Carlo are now both based in Florida!  Kris recently moved back from California, where he worked for Jenni Martin with Martin McAllister Training in California.  This pair has created quite the buzz when they’re at the same show.

Congratulations to Jenny Sutton, Chester Weber and Jack Wetzel who were just named to the United States Equestrian Team Foundation as new Trustees.  Also finding some new duties, E. Hunter Harrison has been named as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors of The National Horse Show Association of America Ltd.  Hunter and his wife Jeannie’s Double H Farm is managed by their daughter, Cayce, and is home to a number of world-class show jumpers, including Let’s Fly and Rufus, shown by Rodrigo Pessoa.

Werner Rentsch got the commission for the cover art for the 2011 HITS Saugerties Official Show Program.  His paintings are highly sought after by collectors around the world, and this season his piece entitled “Horse in Red Cooler” will grace the cover of the popular program that serves as a keepsake to all exhibitors that attend the horse show.

Horse Show news: Circle the dates on your calendar for the Pennsylvania National Horse Show’s 66th year.  October 13 – 22, 2011, are the dates, Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center in Harrisburg is the place.

It wouldn’t be summer without The Hampton Classic Horse Show in Bridgehampton, NY, August 28 – September 4.  The show attracts riders as well as the see-and-be-seen crowd, so the people watching is great.  (So’s the shopping!)

Mayor Thomas Menino will be on-hand at the Boston Common Parade Ground for an equestrian demonstration by the Olympic-caliber show jumping riders of the Putnam Boston Equestrian Classic.  This event, taking place on Thursday, August 25, 2011, will celebrate the annual tradition of show jumping returning to the Boston area and will benefit the Boston Park Rangers Mounted Unit.
