First edition of the World Sport Horse Sales was a hit with $410.000 for the most expensive horse

March 17th 2023

Intro:
The first edition of the World Sport Horse Sales, held at the World Equestrian Center in Ocala Florida, will go down in history as a tremendous success. With excellent prices both for the highest-selling horse and the average selling price, the organization can look back on a night to remember.

Top-seller
With a packed bidding area and lots of interested equestrians in the stands, the evening was off to a good start. With a total of 14 horses to auction off in the Grand Arena of the WEC, the air was filled with anticipation. The expectations were definitely met or even exceeded with the top-selling horse of the evening: Dutch-bred six-year-old Masseltof. A KWPN gelding by Baltic VDL x Tangelo vd Zuuthoeve that was knocked down for 410,000 dollars.

Great first edition
The average selling price was nearly 174,000 dollars and all the horses found new owners in North America. “We are very proud we’ve been able to organize the first edition of our auction at the WEC in Ocala”, Paul Hendrix says. “The venue was perfect and there was lots of interest in the horses. Thanks to the collaboration between Stal Hendrix, Redfield Farms, and Andre Thieme we’ve had a fantastic auction. We are glad to see the horses have found owners that will enable them to continue their careers in showjumping and in the hunter and equitation divisions.”
