In January, you were awarded the Whitney Stone Cup by the USET Foundation. This award is given to “an active competitor who displays consistent excellence in international competition, as well as exemplifying high standards of sportsmanlike conduct, while serving as an ambassador for the United States and equestrian sport.” Can you discuss what it was like to receive this award?

Repairing an Equine Partnership

Monday, March 02 2020 by Editor
"I recently returned from a college semester abroad and my horse and I aren’t clicking the way we used to. I think he’s trying to tell me that he’s mad at me for being gone for such a long time. During a pleasure ride, he even tried to throw me, which is something he’s never done in the eight years I’ve had him. When he’s in his stall, he holds his head low with flaccid ears. He also stands in the corner with his back to the door. How can I mend our broken relationship, along with his feelings of hurt and abandonment?"

Carrie Sarabella: Creating a New Life with Dog and Horse Snacks

Wednesday, February 26 2020 by Editor
By Tafra Donberger. Portraits by Shawna Simmons - Carrie Sarabella’s interest in horses started when her grandfather would tell her — without ever taking her — that he was going to “feed the horses.” Thus the obsession began, and eventually her mother insisted he take Carrie with him. That was when they learned that “feed the horses” was his code for going to bet on racehorses at the track.

When you’re looking for a horse, how do you know you've found the right one? What are you looking for? When I’m trying a horse, I think about a lot of different things: What type of rider is this horse for? What are the expectations for the horse? Does the horse have the necessary experience level for the new owner? Is the horse appropriately priced?

Kady Abrahamson: Balancing School with Riding, and Winning at Both

Friday, January 17 2020 by Editor
By Britney Grover, Portraits by Shawna Simmons - Kady Abrahamson was riding before she could walk — and jumping before she knew how. “By the time I was 4, I would jump over logs by kicking the Western horses so they’d jump over instead of stepping over it,” she said.
