#35 Anne Walsh – 2011-10-24 10:20

The write up is perfect…thank you so much…my kid has the heart of a Grand Prix rider but who knows where riding will take her. She did end up having surgery on her foot and has one more planned for Dec; but she has ridden three times since the injury. She goes to the barn in her cast/boot, tacks up her horse then puts her riding boot on and she is off. The first time was very emotional but she is back with 5 shows booked in November. Thanks again…yes I am a proud mother and have a very excited kid because of your magazine..
Anne

#26 Katie Scoville 2010-11-05 05:13
All the attention to Foxhunting in your November (2010) issue was delightful to read. I especially enjoyed the bit about Cat Davey. I met her several years ago when a friend of mine won a chance to hunt with TNYH in the MFHA silent auction. The Von Teichmans were wonderful to us. Cat arranged for a fabulous horse for me to hunt. Her safety-mindedness put me at ease. I had a wonderful time. Reading this article brought back great memories!

#25 Kay George 2010-11-03 11:14
I love your magazine. I learned about it at the Blessing of the Hounds hunt event held outside of Dayton, Ohio on Sunday.
I had the privilege of meeting Lisa Hollister, member of Camargo and Iroquois Hunts. She asked me to drop her a note.
I will also be subscribing to your magazine later this week. What a lovely publication. – Cheers

We are so grateful for the opportunity to be included in such a quality magazine. I look forward to working with you when the time approaches. Just wanted to say thank you for running such a great ad for our boy Clyde in your November Needy Nags column! Although, he has not yet found a home, he is doing grat and is sweeter every day. Thanks again for such a great column and an awesome magazine!

#6 Kathy Austin 2009-11-24 23:34 What I love about the magazine is the variety – horse property ads, jumpers, hunters, polo, fox hunting, eventing, dressage – so many disciplines – art edition is just fabulous – good advertisers…and a bit of gossip to keep it interesting! I wish it had a bit more west coast representation but we get our 2 cents in every once in awhile. And being able to give a “gift” subscription to a friend has been fun – everyone so far has liked it as much as I do! Keep up the great work!

#5 Beth Carnevale 2009-10-11 04:25

Marie Meyers has been around the world because of Marie Meyers has been around the world because of dressage, but it’s her farm in Moorpark, California, that has captured her heart. The farm and the business that thrives there represent Marie’s lifelong journey—a journey made up of good friends, spectacular horses and relationships made to last.

Marie was raised in Southern California, and spent her childhood playing just about every sport under the sun, but she didn’t discover riding until she was 14 years old. “I loved animals so much, so I started taking lessons. I did jumping at first, but I was very bad at that, for sure!” Marie laughed.

After some time, Marie moved on to take lessons at Foxfield Riding Academy and began riding dressage. “I fell into dressage by accident,” Marie said, “At the beginning, I thought it was extremely boring, but then I got hooked. By the time I graduated from high school, I had plans to travel to England to work for Franz Rochowansky, a former head of the Spanish Riding School.”

In 1988, Marie’s hard work paid off, and the pair was selected as alternates for the 1988 Summer Olympic Games. “They didn’t take the alternates that year, so we didn’t go to Seoul, but the experience, the training and the European Tour afterwards set me up for the 1990 World Equestrian Games in Stockholm, Sweden,” Marie said.

In addition to having success representing her country, Marie was busy with her life—marriage, a business, teaching lessons and clinics.

‼️ROB JACOBS COLUMN‼️ The purpose of this ‼️ROB JACOBS COLUMN‼️

The purpose of this month’s column is to help the young equestrians of our sport develop and maintain healthy friendships within the industry. Cultivating healthy relationships with other members within the industry is not as easy as one may think. As a young equestrian, it may be difficult navigating friendships at the barn and at horse shows. Typically, kids have friendships within the barn they ride at but also friendships with others from different barns in their area.

Initially, it may seem as though making other friends in the sport would be easy and ideal; after all, there is the common interest of horses. However, because of the natural therapeutic benefits of horses, the sport has a history of attracting all types of people, with a wide range of personalities. This can be both an advantage and a drawback. We are now in an era that acknowledges the growing need to discuss and manage one’s mental health.

One thing I have learned is that we are likely to notice mental health challenges at an age younger than most people may think. Some of the friendship dynamics I have observed over the years have caused me to pause and really think about the future of our sport. Without looking for a source to blame for the cause of this, i.e. social media, parents, school, teachers, etc., I think if all adults involved worked to encourage, affirm, love, and respect our youth, the likelihood of them developing authentic friendships with their peers may increase.

Both humans and horses were designed to have connected relationships. These relationships allow a greater sense of security when one experiences challenges in life. Cultivating the quality and authenticity of these relationships requires intentional work.

Thank you Rob for providing your helpful insight on developing healthy relationships. Check out his tips in his column you can find in the link in our bio.
