Show jumping veteran Margie Engle riding Indigo and 17 year old Reed Kessler riding Cylana tied with 12 faults each over the four rounds for the USEF National Show Jumping Championship in Wellington in March after they agreed to waive the jump off to save their horses after four tough rounds of Olympic selection trials that also served as the National Championship Photo by Kim MacMillan/MacMillan Photography

Catching up:  Mary Kate Olsen, part of those famous Olsen twins was seen in Wellington recently.  We hear she purchased a horse from Debbie Stephens and will be on the scene when she isn’t acting.

Yes folks, Bill Gates has been in and out of Wellington a number of times.  His daughter was showing at the Winter Equestrian Festival.

Congratulations to Marty Bauman and the Show Jumping Hall of Fame on those gorgeous new books the Hall of Fame produced honoring its inductees.  The books show the plaques of all the men, women and horses who have been honored with induction into the Hall of Fame and are given to the ribbon winners of classes on the Show Jumping Hall of Fame Jumper Classic Series.

The National Horse Show Association of America named Bruce Duchossios to the Board of Directors.  “I started showing at the National in the ‘60s at the old Garden and in 1973 I was champion aboard Kim’s Song,” said Bruce.  “So the National was and always will be the highlight of my riding career.  I am honored to be a part of the National Horse Show and so glad that it has found a new home worthy of its ongoing tradition of excellence.”

How about the mess with the Wellington elections?  But folks, it would seem that the voters got it right.

Bernie Traurig has been busy, just releasing five more training videos and he has more in the works.  Bernie and his crew don’t sit still very long.

We hear that Pablo Barrios has opened his own stable and left the exclusive employ of G and C.  Good luck to all of them.

Horses:  Cedric, the gray gelding who jumped to a gold medal on the U.S. show jumping team at the 2008 Olympic Games in Hong Kong and represented the United States at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games (KY), has been sold to Bob and Margaret Duprey’s Cherry Knoll Farm of West Grove, PA.  Laura Kraut will continue to have the ride on her Olympic mount.

On the move:  Kim Straub who just moved down from NYC to take over Palm Beach Polo’s marketing and communications tells us that Fiona Spahr has recently joined Palm Beach Polo Realty as a sales associate.

Fiona knows her way around the show ring with champion titles in Hunter and Equitation classes from the World Equestrian Festival.

Mason Phelps Radio recently had Samantha Charles as guest along with Heidi Lengyel and Wendy Coren.

Passing:  Lucien Henry Capehart Jr., who for more than 40 years chronicled Palm Beach society in its finest — and sometimes not so — moments, died recently of lung disease.

Donald V. Little died peacefully on February 29 from injuries sustained on Sunday, February 26, when his horse fell while jumping a fence during the Masters Classic in the International Arena at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL.  Judith A. Little, Don’s wife of 57 years, said, “I will miss him so much.  Donald died doing what he loved. He was loved and respected by so many people, including his fellow competitors, partners and team members in the horse worlds of polo, field hunting, show jumping and Thoroughbred racing as well as in all other aspects of his life.”

Joe Stone had been suffering with cancer for a long time.  His last days were at Palm Beach Hospice, which does a wonderful job.  Very sad.  He worked right up to the end.
