After two years of being held on Grand Prix Sunday, the Hampton Classic’s incredibly popular Leadline Class (more than 100 entries!) is moving back to Opening Day (Sunday, August 25). It moved in 2011 when Hurricane Irene forced cancellation of the Classic’s Opening Day and then stayed on Grand Prix Sunday last year. However, Opening Day gives the Leadliners a chance to ride in the Classic’s famed Grand Prix Ring and so the switch back has been made. Olympic Gold Medalist Joe Fargis is expected to return as judge! Photo by Gilda VanHecke

A big thanks to the Equestrian Aid Foundation, which helped Ralph Hill following his accidents (see the story in the May issue of Sidelines). The nonprofit has given more than $2.1 million in assistance to help the many people in the equestrian world who have suffered a catastrophic accident, injury or illness. For more information, or to make a donation to help those in need, visit equestrianaidfoundation.org or on Facebook at EAF.Ride4Hope.

Beverly Harrison, who owns The Tack Collection, in Lafayette Colorado, will be opening her store for “Lafayette Night Out,” the third Friday of every month, from May through September. Bev is an equestrian artist and her contemporary equestrian style art will be on display in the store and will also be for sale. Sounds like great fun, an exciting evening out and some wonderful artwork!

Way to go Purina! Purina Horse Feed has pledged up to $150,000 in free feed to rescue shelters through A Home for Every Horse. For the second year in a row, Purina is offering a base donation of $125,000 to help find new homes for horses in need of adoption of fostering. To promote additional awareness and funding, Purina will also donate an additional $1, up to $25,000 for every new “Like” or “Share” it receives through Facebook between April 16 and August 21.
