Great Facebook Photos: The Rest of the Story
Sunday, September 23 2012

By Jan Westmark-Allan I introduced our new Sidelines Magazine intern, Mindy Coretz, in yesterday’s blog and mentioned that she was a talented photographer. You may have already seen some of her great photos on the Sidelines Facebook page, and now I’m going to tell you “the rest of the story.” (If you are of a certain age you will remember Paul Harvey’s radio series called “The Rest of the Story.” If you are not of age, disregard all mentions of Paul Harvey and radios!) Did you see the “falling off” photo on the Sidelines Facebook page? Well here’s the rest of the story – and the rest of the pictures! From Mindy: Photo of the rider falling off: The rider in this image is one of my best friends and she is riding Tucker, one of my favorite ponies! We were enjoying a 75 degree afternoon in a field in Aspen, Colorado.

By Jan Westmark-Allan Mindy Coretz – new Sidelines intern extraordinaire Throughout the summer I had a wonderful intern named April Leonard working for me, helping me with the Sidelines website and Facebook page. When she told me she wouldn’t be able to keep working as an intern when she went back to college in the fall, my reaction was simple. I said, “April, college is overrated.

What’s Your Sign? (In the Horse World Anyway)
Friday, September 21 2012
by Editor
By Jan Westmark-Allan A “sign of the times” for a horse person! “What’s your sign” might be a common saying in the world – but if you ask a horse person what their sign is they will probably have a completely different answer than a non-horse person. Horse people have some great signs in their barns, homes, trailers, rings and tack rooms. What’s the best sign you have ever seen?

By Jan Westmark-Allan Double the llamas, double the drama! Photo by Trinity Allan While my quest continues to find the Perfect Paint, (Paint or pinto, gelding, 15 hands or taller, wide, trail proof and sweet) there is one more thing I need to add to the list: the new Perfect Paint must like llamas.

By Jan Westmark-Allan If you’ve been hanging out at the barn riding and cleaning stalls a lot lately, you may have missed out on the latest dance craze – the Horse Riding Dance. No real horses are involved, but in our YouTube sample of the song we feature the My Little Pony version. (So ponies are involved, although they are imaginary.) The Horse Riding Dance craze is called “Gangnam Style” and is performed by Korean rapper Psy.

A Horse Lover’s Tribute to 9/11 – The Budweiser Clydesdales Help Us To “Never Forget”
Tuesday, September 11 2012
by Editor
By Jan Westmark-Allan It’s easy for me to remember where I was on 9/11 – the barn. We heard the news that we were being attacked and we gathered around a small TV in the tack room and watched, overwhelmed with sadness and fear. While it is a day that brings back so many memories, each year since that terrible day I have felt a sense of honor and pride just to be able to remember that day and say something as simple as “Never Forget.” While I will Never Forget 9/11, I will also Never Forget the feelings I had as a child when I saw the Budweiser Clydesdales – to sum it up the word was “awe.” I had a pony at the time, but these horses were huge, breathtaking, beautiful, regal and memorable.
