Maryland-bred Horse takes Top Honors at the Thoroughly Thoroughbred Dressage Show

UPPER MARLBORO, Md., Aug. 20, 2013— A Maryland-bred horse took top honors at the Thoroughly Thoroughbred Dressage Show to benefit Thoroughbred Placement Resources held on August 11 at All in Stride Equestrian Center, LLC (AIS) in Parkton.

 

Dum Dumm, ridden by Abby Schimming, scored a 75.3% competing in the category of United States Dressage Foundation (USDF) Introductory test B, the highest score in this class.   Schimming received the High Award for Young Rider.  This was the first dressage show for Dum Dumm, whose last race start was March 31, 2006.

“This is the best schooling show I’ve ever attended,” said Elizabeth Madlener, who judged the competition.  Madlener is a United States Equestrian Federation senior judge and Grand Prix dressage coach and rider.  Madlener participates in TPR’s program at Leighton Farm in Upper Marlboro which retrains and transitions retired Thoroughbreds into new careers and homes.  Since 2007, TPR has successfully retrained and placed over 800 horses.

 

Kimberly Clark, founder of TPR, credits the show’s success to the many volunteers and sponsors who participated.

“We would not have been able to pull it off without the hardworking volunteers. Joanna Engstrom-Brown, event coordinator for TPR, and Patti Wong, volunteer coordinator, were the driving force behind this show,” said Clark. “This show has benefitted TPR both financially and by showcasing Thoroughbreds in Dressage.  The AIS facility was immaculate and a breathtaking location for this event. The owners could not have been more accommodating.”

 

Clark also extended her gratitude the Madlener, who spent time with the competitors explaining the details of the competition and providing insight and inspiration. “The competitors and their horses were outstanding,” added Clark, who participated in the show with TPR rescue, Two Punch Willy.

 

The High Award Winner (adult) was Karyn Rainey, receiving a score of 77.7%, competing in USDF Musical Freestyle riding her mare, Hello Lilly.  Bred by Dr. Charles Barth of Washington, Hello Lilly has competed at the Portland Meadows and Emerald Downs.  Her last race start was September 3, 2004.
