The Math behind Pony Club’s Championships East

Pony Club Championships East

August 6, 2012 (Lexington, KY) The excitement of the 2012 Pony Club Championships East is beginning to dissipate but the memories and fun will last a lifetime.  Members qualified in Games, Show Jumping, Eventing, Polocrosse, Quiz, Tetrathlon, or Dressage and competed in Lexington, VA on July 26-29, 2012.  Although there isn’t much math in riding, there were some interesting numbers this year in the hosting of Championships.

3 – Days of non-stop competition fun.

553 – Competitors traveled from far and wide to vie for equestrian supremacy.

31 – The number of regions who sent members to compete at Championships in Virginia this year.  They came from as close as next door in the Virginia Region to as far as Middle California and Alaska to show their Pony Club prowess.

4,283.6 – The farthest distance in miles traveled by one of our competitors from the Alaska Region.  Sophia Hogg and her fan club came to compete in Quiz.

7 – The number of disciplines offered at Championships.  Members could qualify to compete in one discipline of either, Eventing, Dressage, Show Jumping, Quiz, Games, Tetrathlon, or Polocrosse.

4 or 5 – The number of members on each team, usually one is a stable manager who helps the team perform at their best.  All Pony Club competition is team competition to help promote sportsmanship and stewardship among members.

150 – Full time volunteers required to host Championships East and make it memorable for Pony Club members.

13 – Officials hired to judge and score competitors during the event.

15 – The age difference between competitors who must be 10 years old to compete but graduate from Pony Club at age 25.  Many of these members are on teams together so that older members can help younger members learn about caring for their horses and ponies.

3,600 – Paper drinking cups were used to keep athletes hydrated during the week of super-hot summer competition.

1 – Facility, the Virginia Horse Center, hosted the entire competition on site.
