2014 National Horse Show Highlights & Photo Gallery

2014 National Horse Show Highlights & Photo Gallery by Kim & Allen MacMillan/MacMillan Photography & Media Services The 131st renewal of the historic National Horse Show is now in the record books as of last Sunday afternoon. This year’s show, held for the fourth year in a row at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, featured:  Amateur Owner, Professional and Junior Hunter classes from Tuesday through Saturday; a three-phase $15,000 Under 25 Grand Prix competition sponsored by Sleepy P Ranch and Deeridge Farm; an in-costume $45,000 Chansonette Farm Gambler’s Choice class on Halloween (Friday); the $250,000 Canadian Pacific Grand Prix on Saturday, and the ASPCA Maclay Medal Equitation Finals on Sunday. The show was founded in 1883 by a group of affluent businessmen. It ran in New York City from 1883 until 1988, then moved to New Jersey to the Meadowlands from 1989 – 1995. It returned to New York City in 1996 and stayed there until it moved to Florida in 2002. The show then moved again to Syracuse, New York, in 2008 and it ran there through 2010, finally moving to Kentucky in 2011. 17)But Beezie and Cortes-C were last to go in the jump-off. Beezie said her husband told her that McLain was fast, “Use his Scope” he said referring to Cortes C. They cut corners, skipped strides & defied gravity. Everyone had to look at the clock to be sure. They were ¾ second faster and claimed the title to the CP $250K Grand Prix.
