The inaugural recipient of the Jack Fritz Memorial Scholarship ($1,500), from Zone 5, Region 2, was Nora Demchur of the University of South Carolina.
The 39th IHSA National Championships remembered IHSA co-founder, Captain John “Jack” Fritz, who passed away at age 87 on February 10, 2012. Fritz was a strong advocate for college riding and was honored with a perpetual IHSA Scholarship, sponsored by ECE Equestrian Co., LLC, and launched in his name during the May 3-6 event in Raleigh, NC.
Nora, 21, is from Malvern, PA and the President/Captain of the ISHA team. “I’ve been riding ever since I can remember, my mom is a trainer/farm manager and I grew up riding mostly project or sale ponies/horses. I grew up eventing because that’s what my mom does and then I switched over to jumpers after I had ridden the pony jumpers on one of the sale ponies. Currently, I mostly just ride in IHSA competitions at school and do the Adult Jumpers on my Irish mare when I can. I don’t have very much time to show outside of IHSA because I am a pre-med with a psychology major and biology minor so school keeps me quite busy!”
Congratulations to Nora for winning this very competitive scholarship!
